Buying a new guitar. Help wanted.

Does anyone know of a good pawnshop in San Francisco?? Im going there in a couple of weeks and thought about stoping by some pawnshops to get a good deal on a guitar.

there are no real deals on axes in pawnshops, i hit them up pretty regular,.. and although, i know of several, that's not where you go to get a deal,...

it's been that way for a few years now. There are Sam Ash and Guitar Centers everywhere and they buy/sell used stuff. eBay is there too, but most guitar players won't buy anything without playing it first. Like you said, all you find at pawnshops are no name Strats and "Super Strat"-types, and they want way too much when they probably only paid the guy that pawned them $50. I remember when I first started playing (back in the mid 90's), my buddy and I would take the bus (before I drove) and walk through all the pawnshops and vintage guitar stores on Sunset. There was some really cool stuff back then - not tht we could afford it, but we still liked to window shop.

I agree. Went to one pawn shop, they wanted $1500 for this used Jackson electric where's the music store down the street was selling it for $1000 BRAND NEW

I have been having some good luck with Craigslist. You just can't expect to buy a guitar you can resell for a profit. It is not impossible, just harder to come across these days as everyone is hip to guitar values.

Also, open yourself up to some lesser known treasures. Like older high end Ibanez, Kramer, G&L, Heritage, Hamer, Dean, and like guitars.

Nice collection of Gibsons I see there.  I have two Explorers that look like the one on the edge.  It looks to be Black with White PG.  I have the one I bought in 87 and I just bought a new one last year.  I am currently in the market for a Les Paul as funds allow.

but i do have a epiphone ES-335 copy and a real 1957 hollowbody jazz model, i keep forgeting the letter/number designation...
  if you want a deal on a les paul, a real les paul, go for a "studio" they are simple L.P.s but play just as well as the fancier models,.. I have a studio in cherry that plays as well as any L.P. i've ever got my mitts on... the cheaper LPs have lower quality tuners BTW..
but if i had my druthers i'd get a soapbar goldtop...  except they cost 3K and up.. I paid 800 for my studio,.. I also count my PRS as a gibson,.. cause it reminds me so much of one... they sure have gone down in price... there's one at Rocker for 400 bucks..

I would love to get a custom shop LP, but I cannot justify $3000 + for a guitar at this point.  I plan on adding a new or even used LP Studio in Cherry Sunburst or Red Wine in fairly short order here.

yo 69    that looks like a  valvestate marshall........not bad            not   to dump on jacksons too much, but the cheaper models man give crappy pickups....the usa series has much better pickups with the seymour duncan beck series usually.......nice set.....that or throw in some emgs already!!!     nice rig

The RR V has Seymour Duncans in it, the Dinky has regular Jacksons in it and I put Seymour Duncans in the Warrior

hopefully not the cheap duncan design pickups!         they produce as much shitty sounds as the cheap emg hz's     


i prefer the jeff beck series duncans myslef not bad sound, all around even for metal, and yes i play heavy metal.     emgs are much warmer for soloing, but for riffs sometimes i prefer the duncans
