Got some feedback on the new PC 440 aluminum head scheduled for release in the new year, thought I'd pass it along.

440source and others will be carrying them.

I DID NOT get to stick my fingers in them, rather, I just had a chin-wag with a friend who DID.

I respect his opinions, he knows his heads. He has alot of porting/flowing experience.
Overall, "greenlight", looks to be "fine".

QUOTE;  "Sure can't beat the Price"  !

"HIS THOUGHTS and OPINIONS",

* very straight forward street/brackets head, no "goofy shit" to be wary of. (K.I.S.S. method is a good thing)

* He doubts 290 flow "out of the box", given the port. (he's still a Ford guy) LOL !
Maybe at higher lifts, but he expects slightly less, useable up to .600", (he's been wrong before), but good area under the curve.

* good street chamber, a little thin for hard Nitrous(common on street heads), cooling passages are priority.

* straight plug in stock location   ? ?

* typical "get hotter burn", "higher pressure exhaust", "it'll find it's own way out", philosyphy.(FORD !)
(Keeping the stock exhaust location has it's drawbacks, this is NOT a "dis" on the head !)

All in All, they should be a WINNER entry level replacement head for new builds, with upgrade potential during port modifications.

Well priced, as with any head, always have them "checked over" prior to installation for guide clearance, seat/valve runout, spring pressures, etc.

I think I'll order a few sets to play with.
Like he said, "can't beat the price" !

Just HIS opinions,   Bob out.

sounds promising, thanks for the update.  let me know when you buy yours and start working on them.  I will wait to get your opinion before I move forward.

Brandon @ 440source has stated explicitly that the "Procomp" castings are not  the ones he will be selling. Supposedly a different head from a different foundry.  :scratchchin:

Good question.  It makes me think that Edelbrock must have made a LOT of money selling Mopar heads to get so many others wanting to join the party?

Yeah I think they did...   Theres a post on moparts about twisted flow wanting to get into it now also.

As for the pro comp / 440 source...    I see many of the same type of parts being sold as procomp and also as 440source.     Those aluminum valve covers,  WP housings, etc. to name a few.    OK so I saw a pic of a 'new' 440 source WP housing with a 440source logo on it but I'm pretty much thinking that there's something more to the story than a mere coincidence.     Is it possible that one or both companies are getting the L&P console job by the Chinese?   Quite possible in my eyes.

Yeah, I totally confused now about what heads "my guy" played with ?

One thing I think is for sure, is that they are all "offshore" head stuff, Chinese, Taiwanese, or whatever ?

For THAT price, it's almost certain.

No matter, if they're good, and 440source says they are, who cares ?

Still dumbfounded though, Apologies fellas, for any "misleads", if thats the case.

Bob & Brian, there was a long thread running on Moparts announcing the new head from 440 Source but the thread got hijacked then deleted.  ::) Somebody asked if the 440 Source heads were reboxed Procomp pieces and the response was a resounding no. Brandon has been working on these heads for awhile and posted CAD drawings over a year ago.

I bought a set of sheetmetal valvecovers from 440 Source and they did come in a Procomp box.  :scratchchin:

Some of his stuff is coming from "Procomp" but these heads might in fact be a proprietary piece that he designed and is bringing to the market on his own. For sure any head at that price level will be an offshore part. It'll be interesting to see how they stack up against an Edelbrock or Indy head.

Bob....looking forward to your unbiased opinion & evaluation of these castings.   :2thumbs:

And just maybe the Chinese are giving Brandon the L&P job and running his "propriety" head on night shift and throwing them into procomp boxes  :scratchchin:     I'd be interesting to see them on a table next to each other sometime.    But whatever... I still got my Eddys.

I'm still gonna ask around more before I order the 4.25 kit.  I got a good review from another moparts guy on Dram.   Price isn't everything.

If Brandon has gone to the trouble, and expense, to develop his own proprietary casting, with CAD drawings, there is NO DOUBT in my mind, that HIS piece will be a GREAT one, no matter what competant foundry he deals with, Chinese or otherwise !

My hat is off to this guy ! He doing what we contemplated, but lacked resolve to accomplish !

There should be no question, even if indeed PC or whoever casts them, that they are indeed HIS own castings.

My sincerest apologies fellas, if I've in anyway tarnished Brandon/440sources reputation, or commitment, to a head development program, by assuming from a "third party" report, that the head "my guy" was looking at was "440source's" NEW HEAD, or from "PC".

I "ass-u-me'd", which as we all know, makes an ASS, of U and ME.
Me BAD, I'm terribly sorry.

I will support Brandon & 440source wholeheartly as a "top drawer" Mopar specific Company, where-ever we can, as we all should.

My problem is we just don't get, sufficient demand for that type of casting.
Still more need in our market "niche" for the INDY, BRODIX, CANFIELD, AFR, etc.

Go 440source   :2thumbs:

Bob, no need for appologies and i'm sure your report was no slight on 440 source or anyone else.  ;) It seems like a lot of players are jumping into the BB head game and who knows what is being made by who....if that sounds confusing it should be.

Once all these castings hit the marketplace the machinsts such as yourself will be able to give us an honest, unbiased opinion.  :2thumbs:

The prototypes that Brandon posted pics of look very nice.  :yesnod:

Are they on  backorder  ?

I have a quick question about the heads. Will the 2.14/ 1.84 valves have the clearance to work with the 383 bore? I have a 383 block with a .040 over bore. I have heard the 1.84 exhaust valve will not clear the cylinder. Anyone?
If it ain't wide open; it ain't running.        Rule number one in motocross racing: Pin it; row the gear box; and wait until you hit something.     At work my motto is: If you need me, call someone else.

Sorry. I just read my post again and I meant to type 1.81 exhaust valve size.

Shouldn't be a problem...guys have been running E-heads on small bore combos for years now. You would most likely want to mill them down to increase the static compression ratio which would help correct the head gasket overhang issue.  ;)

Thanks Firefighter. My 906 heads are ported, blended and 75 cc chambers now. I will definitely research the replacement if I go that route. I can't figure out why my heads are smoking. Might be guides or something. They have been cut down and Perfect Circles were used but they smoke noticeably. I will get something fixed. Thanks again.
