And it can't be your charger! It has to be your daily car or was your daily car. I'll start. I'm only 17 so I have only one car, so I guess its the best one I've ever owned.. 1995 Sunfire GT 5-Speed.

bull

Neener neener. I'm going to say my '70 Charger anyway because I no longer have it and it was my daily driver for 11 years. I hardly had any problems with that car. No joke. It took all I could dish out and more for over a decade, and that's between the age of 15-26 (which are pretty rough times for cars). The two other best 'cars' I had were pickups. I had a silver 1985 Dodge Ram 1/2 ton short bed for years that was awesome and I now have a '94 Dakota that is almost as trouble free. I've owned many more pickups than cars. In fact I think I've only owned four cars (not counting my wife's cars) between the age of 15 and 38: 1970 Charger, 1974 AMC Hornet, 1974 VW Dasher (hated it) and my current '68 Charger.

Well,.. I've only had six cars.
'65 Dodge 880 four door, no options. Gave me eternal respect for the C-bodies.
'69 Charger R/T SE. in a class by itself, Kinda a cross between a T-Rex and a Cessna if ya ask me.     ;)
'74 Ddge Tradesman Van short wheelbase 318 Auto. indistructable and supremly usefull!
'89 Dodge Ram 150 Van same as above.
'89 Chysler New Yawker Bill Blass Ed. (as noted in the bad car thread it wasn't a bad car for a "meek" driver but I drove the freakin wheels off that poor thing...     :icon_smile_dead:
'99 Chysler 300 M my current daily driver, I'd buy another in a heartbeat & highly recomend one!   :icon_smile_approve:

TruckDriver

My '78 Aspen R/T. I put 200,000 on the 318 (had 125,000 when I got it) and never opened the engine til about 180,000 for a timing chain. Wish I'd never sold it and just restored it :brickwall: I had it for 10 years. And I drove that car HARD the whole time too!

FRANKIE!!!!!!!!   The 1969 Dodge Charger 229000 miles and still rollin! I'd drive this car to hell and back if I needed to!

ChargerBill

I'll follow the rules...besides the Charger...

Hmmm, my 1956 Chevy Custom Cab 3100 Step Side big back window pick-up. It has a '65 Corvette 327, an M22 Rock Crusher 4 speed, a heavily built 12 bolt posi rear end and it turns heads everywhere I go.

Oh wait, you said car

OK, ummm.....shoot....well, none of them. I HAD a 1966 GT350 Mustang, but only for a few months, and I don't really like Fords too much. Most of the vehicles I've owned were a truck of some sort. I had a 1959 Deluxe Fleetline (fastback) 2 door Chevy that I was going to go Old School with, but it was such a basket case that I let it go....made $2,000 profit on $950 investment in just 2 years.

Life is a highway...

Headrope

My first car was the best I've ever owned: a '67 Dart GT with a slant six. I drove the piss out of that car and only had to change the starter and brake pads every now and then. Great car, great motor.
Sixty-eights look great and the '69 is fine.
But before the General Lee there was me - Headrope.

:yesnod: well the best car i ever owned would have to be a 1974 pontiac grand prix 455 ci man that thing would flat out run like the wind! the 2nd best car would be my trusty old 1974 ford pinto 2300 cc 4 speed got that car with 20,000 miles on it and i put another 200,000 on it and the only major thing that happened was the timing belt 2 times !

95 Intrepid.  But to be fair, when we got rid of it, I think the infamous transmission issue was beginning to crop up so I may not have had the car long enough to make that statement.

ChargerSG

I must say my Charger, cause it is the best car, no problems not like my shitcar i drive to work(Suzuki Baleno) good i hate that car, but i love my Charger :icon_smile_big:
Looking for 383 Magnum #0B196875 and 0B115166

It would be a toss-up between my most enjoyed car and the one that just never did me wrong.

My 2000 Intrepid was loaded and I loved it. It was, however, a company car that I let go at the end of the lease, I regret that all the time. I should have bought that one out.

My 95 Grand Am with a Quad4 and a 5 speed manual tranny just never, ever did me wrong. I know that's surprising for a Quad4.
I bought it lightly used (about 30,000 kms) and drove it until I got the Intrepid. I ran the Grand Am up to 254,000 kms and then gave it to my daughter, who drove it for a few years before selling it. It's still kicking around town today. The only thing I ever had to fix on it was some fancy shmancy high pressure hoses and that was when my daughter had it - during my time it was all just regular maintenance stuff.

nh_mopar_fan

Aside from my 67, it was, of all things, a winter beater.

Guy at work puts up ad in company newsletter for a 1988 Mazda 626 turbo, loaded, FREE.

Says the dealer told him it needs $2100 worth of work to pass inspection. Car has 240K on it and has been dealer serviced since day 1. Whatever the dealer said, he did. You can see where this is going. What the dealer didn't know was that the guy had bought a new car and when they told him what a sticker would cost him, he balked. So he puts it up for free.

I get there and this car is CLEAN. It moves. That turbo kicked ass. I pick it up on Saturday and on Monday take it to my garage for a sticker. passes without issue, $25.

I drive that car for the next 2 years until I finally dump it with 300K on it. I put one tire on it. That's it. I end up donating it to the lung association and take the book value on my taxes. I end up making money on the deal.

That was a fun car to drive.

Badbob

This is the best car I have ever owned, now retired from daily driver status. It has never had a breakdown.

'95 Oldsmobile Achieva...  Man, I loved that car...  Beautiful 17" colorodo customs rims, Potenz S02 tires, a beautiful green->black fade - not like these crappy nearly two-tone fade imitations, you looked at the car and couldn't decide whether it was green or black for a sec, then realize... :)
It had an amazing audio system, too - top-end Kenwood CD, custom kickpanel pods with Oz audio components, Oz midbass in the doors, two pairs of kicker freeair subs in isobaric ported pairs, a total of nearly 1,400 watts of amps (all kicker ZR)...  That thing sounded lovely... Took it to USAC (now USACi) world finals twice, placed mid-field in my class with it - but it won a lot of smaller competitions to qualify :)

My ex got it in our divorce.  and proceeded to rag the hell out of it  :flame:

I find it interesting that on the bad cars thread the old K cars are often mentioned and on this thread the new(er) LHs are mentioned...
I wonder how the LXs will shape up?.. Does anyone here own one yet?..

The best car I have owned based on cost and upkeep was our '86 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. It was loaded with all the 80's gadgets and they even worked. We bought it with 60K on it for $2,500 back in 1994 and drove it for around seven years without anything other than normal maintenance except a thermostat and upper radiator hose at around 100K.  It got 30mpg and was fun to drive too.

I can't remember how many miles were in it when we sold it a couple years ago for $500 but it was around 120K. It is by far the cheapest car to maintain I have owned so far.

At the same time I owned a '88 Dodge truck with a 318 that was great too.
1968 Charger 383 auto
1969 Charger R/T 440 4 speed
1970 Charger 500 440 auto
1972 Challenger 318
1976 W200 Club Cab 4x4 400 auto
1978 Ramcharger 360 auto
2001 Durango SLT 4.7L (daily driver)
2005 Ram 2500 4x4 Big Horn Cummins Diesel 6 speed

I was noticing that myself Strat.  I think the K-car was basically designed as a cheap disposable car.  It was a Hail Mary pass for Chryselr at the time and accomplished what it was supposed to but they didn't age well.
The LH had a great deal of thought put into by a corporation that had very successfully rebounded.  The LX I think will prove that theory even further.  But the Magnum Sedan is still ugly.  ;D

PocketThunder

'86 S-10.  I redlined every shift in that thing and it was still ticking after 190,000 miles.  Bought it for $100, put $300 into the engine, sold it 5 years later for $450! ha!

'97 Wrangler.  Same story.  god i miss my Jeep!

1986 Merkur XR4Ti - the car was a BLAST... I want another one again  :icon_smile_big:

The best car I have ever owned was a 1969 Charger that I bought in 1970 for $2800. It had 11,000 miles on it at the time. Over the next 3 years I put on about 70,000 miles. The only repair I had to make besides routine maintenance was to replace a portion of the transmission cooling line that had worn a tiny hole in it from vibration. I noticed the leak when I stopped at a gas station to fill up with 25 cent per gallon gas and saw some pink liquid on the freshly fallen snow. That car would go anywhere with snow tires on it.

That Charger was a great car. I then made the horrible mistake of trading it in on a new Z-28. I think I got $500 for it on the trade-in.

That first Charger greatly influenced the one I have now when I decided to restore a muscle car.

My 87 honda accord, 350000 miles. 1 timing belt and water pump, 1 clutch and 1 alternator.

My best car (truck) was also my first...I still have it today. Although, I foolishly took it apart quite a few years ago to fix it's trouble spots & it's STILL apart...patiently waiting for me. :-\

It's a 66 F100 Custom Cab with a warmed-over 390, 4-speed & 9" rear end with 350 gears.
I can honestly say that I've personally blown up more drivetrain related parts on this truck when I was a kid than I've replaced on all my subsequent cars to date.   :smilielol:
But this is what I learned about vehicles on & it taught me a lot...it was really a love/hate relationship during that learning curve. Once I figured out how to fix things the right way, I hardly broke anything. :icon_smile_big:

I had more fun in this old truck than any other car & I'm amazed to this day that I'm still alive from some of the situations this truck & I went through.

Yes, it's a picture of a picture ;D ...taken in 1983.

The vehicle that's been most trouble free so has been our 1991 Exploder. It's currently got 246,000 miles on the clock & still has it's original engine & tranny...although it is on it's 3rd radiator for some reason. :ahum:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Nupe

As much as I hate to say it...   Hondas have treated me best.   Only had one other and it was a '89 Prelude SI with the 2.0 and haulled arse.   Spanked many fart piped equipped cars and it had 180K miles, took it to redline all day long, and never used any oil.     Sold it and hated myself soon after.

Currently driving a '93 Ciivic I paid $1,000 for and it has about 180K on it now and runs great.   Drove it all over the place this summer and just put rear brakes (originals) and tires on it.   Still gets around 38 MPG.   By far the most reliable cars I've owned.

my charger, then a 77 corolla, then my 94 escort, then my 87 ramcharger, 89 dakota, 71 duster and then my 87 mazda B2000.  #2 and 3 are for sentimental reasons.

I have had 2 cars that stand out above all the others......

A 1968 Chevy ElCamino SS 396 4-Speed, And a 1968 Charger 318 Auto, with I think every option Dodge could stuff into a car that year!  Both were super dependable & neither one of them ever let me down. I miss those cars. :'(

I have owned Toyotas, Hondas, Nissan and Datsun cars and trucks, Chevy cars and trucks, Blazer, 3 Broncos, Dodge/Plymouth cars and trucks, van, and Ramcharger, Firebird, Cutlass, BMW, Volkswagons, 45 or 50 cars and trucks, I would say the imports, Toyotas, Nissans, and Hondas, including a Dodge Ram 50 small truck made by Mitshubishi, were the most reliable and well built, the 4x4s of Ford, Dodge, Chevy, Nissan, most fun, '71 Camaro and '74 Firebird and '71 Cutlass were fun to drive, so were the 3 Celicas and a 260 Z and a '72 BMW Bavaria,   I like my Toyota Camry a lot I have now, '95 XLE V-6 automatic.   Difficult to pick one as best, depends on what it was for, daily driver, hauling stuff, reliable, fun to drive, going four wheeling.

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

NYCMille

It kills me to say me this but, the best car I've had was my 1998 Subaru Legacy GT, 5-speed, AWD. I BEAT THE CRAP out of that little car... redline in every gear from every light, hell I even took it on the beach a few times. Never one bit of touble and it ran like champ. Amazing little bugger (a bit slow though).

defiance

Don't knock Subarus.  My wife's WRX is one sweet ride...  If I wouldn't have gotten the charger, I'd probably have a subie of some sort... maybe an STi   But the opportunity came to get the charger, so that's the direction I headed, and a happy one it will be (I hope!) :)

MichaelRW

I took it to mean you can't use the Charger you own now. If I am a rule breaker, I humbly apologize. ;D
