Door weatherstrip retainers- how to install?

This (hopefully) should be a easy question....

In replacing door weatherstrips, there are plastic retainers that are inserted in the weatherstrips, so that when they're installed they look like plastic 'hooks' sticking out of the seals. These then go into the holes running around the edge of the door to help hold the weatherstrip in place.

I've got a set of replacement weatherstrips and a set of replacement retainers, but I don't know which way the 'hook' should be facing when I install the retainer into the weatherstrip. And of course the original weatherstrips were removed and tossed years ago so I don't have them to go off of.

Can someone please tell me which way these retainers are supposed to face?

99% sure i put mine angled to the right  , looking at the weather strip  layed out in front of you  round the right way , so at the top front of the door the clips are angled down , then angled to the rear of the door along the bottom , the, then angled upwards , at the rear of the door  . will check later , i know this way the clips did not brake when i put the original weather strip back on after a year ,as  the new repops still did not compress enough , so you had to slam shut the door .

Ok, so if I understand:    If I laid the weatherstrip in front of me so that the 'head' that has the 3 screw holes in it is towards my right, I should insert the retainers into the weatherstrip so that when they are in, they are angled towards the right?

oops sorry i  got a  a bit confused did not explain it   correctly  ,   better to go by this way ,

front of the door  the barb is angled down , keep the same posisition so
along the bottem the barb is angled towards the rear of the door  then
faces up the back  at the rear of the door ......

like i said thats how i done mine &  did not brake any clips on removal a year later ,
might not even matter which way , just remember which way the barbs are when
your pulling it to remove it  next time .

Don't the new door weatherstrips come with the clips pre-installed? That's how mine came.  :yesnod:

I'm installing used weatherstrips, and they didn't come with clips.

Just start one side in the hole and grab ahold of the post of the clip with a pliers and slide it in, it will oval the hole to allow the clip to go in and the shrink back when you're done.

Just be careful not to stretch it too far or it can rip the w/strip :Twocents:
