that is a chevy engine is it not?...  sorry...but that just kind of irks me.. yeah, the workmanship is great.. yeah the paint job is badazz, yeah the car goes fast.. but still... its a bastard of a chevy powerplant in a dodge.... its like having an ostrich screw a platypus and they have offspring... they may run fast, swim quick, and paddle like hell... but they are still ugly as F%!*

I've been at that guy's shop and checked out that car in person. Yes, it's a Chevy engine and he's heard every whiner on the planet complain about it. He doesn't care - it's still a wicked car. He does say that most of the people at the track love the car and most of them have no idea what the engine is. I guess as long as he stays away from shows (and message boards) he's ok.

FYI - the car started out as an R/T needing a complete restoration but he couldn't get a title. Instead of parting it or junking it he built a race car. He did sell off a lot of the usable parts to other guys (like me) to restore their cars. The unibody is still all steel but most of the rest of the car is fiberglass.

not everyone, he hasnt heard me yet... and I would define it more as a bitch or complaint rather than whining... I dont whine about other peoples cars, I just bitch about them.. mostly to myself... and sometimes on here. like my bitching actually amounts too much... well, my bitching and a $1 will get you a cup of coffee.. but due to my bitching your coffee will get poured 15 seconds quicker :D and if they spit in the cup.. well, it is your coffee and not mine  :2thumbs:

its his car, no doubt.  its looks good and he can do with it what he pleases which is true... doesnt mean I have to like the idea that he put a chevy motor in there, drool on it, or what have you.  If that labels me a whiner, well its definitely not as bad as what I was called yesterday, so I can live with that.

That STILL has the unibody?  Why not tube chassis the whole car?

I like this idea..... wait that is because it mine, and no way in HELL I will put a CHEBBY in it for a motor

Troy

He had  a good explanation for why he did everything he did to that car. Frankly, I don't much care about race cars so I don't remember all the details. I think the engine has to do with the electronics he's using, and probably a lot to do with his mechanic (he runs a body shop so someone else is responsible for making it go). I do know that most of the time he does wheels up exhibition runs.

More pics (plus a distraction):

OHH my a charger with a chevy based motor, now a mustang..... what is next Troy :nana:

Wait a minute...I thought every 67/68 'Stang being done these days was supposed to be automatically an Eleanor car? :shruggy:
(can't wait 'til that fad goes away ::) )

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Mefirst

I think the Charger looks :2thumbs: but the Chevy engine is kinda :eek2: BUT if the guy asked me if I wanted it, I would say -Hell YEAH! ..then again I do have a 426 Hemi engine standing in my garage, so the Chebby engine in it would not really be a problem after al :icon_smile_big:

Ghoste

If the Chevy engine is because of his mechanic, then it's time for a new mechanic.  And if my not liking the Chevy engine makes me a whiner, tough, I can live with a label.  Besides, you wanna hear whining, just listen to the Chevy boys when they get beat by a Dodge.

Joshua

Mopar tough.........with Chevy stuff :icon_smile_big:

I don't like the paint, too confused, but overall a nice race car........but that purple '68....now THAT rules! :2thumbs:

Once I find a '57 Chevy 150 or 210 to build a gasser......it'll have a big inch RB!!!! :flame:

My favorite old Fat Fendered trucks are the 53-56 F-100, I have always wanted to build one of those with a 440, 727 8-3/4 and a Torsion bar front suspension!  :scratchchin: :scratchchin:  That is a Street Rod I would get into!

I don't really care for mid 50s Dodge trucks, They are OK but I REALLY like the looks of the F-100. ESPECIALLY WITHOUT the wrap around windshield, I had a 63 Chevy with that and it is TOUGH on the knees!!!!!

Troy

When he wins a race no one says "that Chevy won". Just like when all the top fuelers ran Hemi engines - no one ever said "that Mopar with the Chevy body won". Not my car so I don't have to make excuses for him. As I said, he's heard it all and he's not changing his mind so it doesn't matter much. I'd still rather see him driving a Chevy powered 69 Charger R/T than parting it out and building a Chevy powered Chevy.

For anyone who doesn't know, my 2nd favorite car on the planet (after the 68 Charger of course) is a 67-68 Mustang fastback. I was actually making a deal on a 67 GT 390 when I found the Barracuda and since it was a project and not a running car I passed. Here's my friend's dad's car:

I'll have one some day... if it's green I'll have a Bullitt set. :D
