Headrope

Don't tempt me. I know where there is a Christine car (not an actual one - same year/model, etc) with a 392 just begging for attention. It would be a huge undertaking to fix, but I could get it for dirt cheap.
Sixty-eights look great and the '69 is fine.
But before the General Lee there was me - Headrope.

Ya, it ran on starz or HBO last month, I watched it a couple times, haven't seen it in a long time, can't believe what an awesome movie that is.  If you haven't seen that movie in a long time, maybe rent it again.

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

moparguy01

i watched it the other night. if you look into it you see that its a belvedere not a fury. it's been said in alot of articles about the movie and everything. it was supposed to be a 57 fury, but it wasnt. oh well. still a damn beautiful car.

MadScientist

I have to add a correction. the 58 my brother picked up recently is a convertible.  Black with Red Black Silver interior

bluesfool

The '57 Plymouth has a different area under the front grill among other things so it was a '58 Plymouth. I know the movie varied from the book quite a bit, is that what you referring too?

I know the true Fury's were all the biege color with gold like all the ones around it in the opening credits...I always figured the red was a symbol of the possession. Stephen King was not a expert on these cars that is for sure.

I would love to have an original Fury in the biege color.  :yesnod:

I picked up a Christine dvd this morning as a matter of fact to replace my aging vhs copy.
Me, I prefer the 57 Custom Royal Lancer over anything else built in the 50's.  I'll take mine with the D-500 option thanks very much.

What motor was in those cars?     Was it a big block?   Hemi?   Was the movie car motor accurate?   These pics show the grill a lot different.

In 1958 there were 318 poly's and the all new 350 big block. The 350 was the true beginning of the Chrysler big blocks. Both were available with dual quad 4bbl's. In fact, I think the 350 only came with 2- 4bbl's.  The early Hemi's were never offered in the 1958 Fury or any Plymouth for that matter.

In 1957 the 318 poly dual 4bbl was the top engine and 1959 brought the 361 Golden Commando single 4bbl, so the 350 was a one year only deal.

The grill and anodized trim were gold on the Fury's. The Belvedere(which is what Christine more resembles) did not have this. The Fury's were only available in the biege color that year.

Hmm, John Carpenter's name is on the movie poster, I thought it was Stephen King also.     The car in the movie looks like the red car pic I posted, but the poster shows a   Fury, so they even put the wrong car on the poster that was in the movie.   The engine looked cool with the dual quads.   That scene where the chrome air cleaners reshape to perfect after the brutal bashing from the bad guys was cool, showed the engine pretty well.

I believe John Carpenter was the director of the movie. Stephen King wrote the book.

BTW: I am not following you on the grill difference... ???
