I got my mistress a new black dress for her 40th birthday

Well, she's 40 years old today and has never looked better IMO. For her birthday I got her a really expensive black dress so one day we can go out in style...

If you recall, this first picture is as far as I was able to get nearly two years ago I think. The rest are of the most recent progress:

bull

I've been laid up for the past six days or so with a hurt leg so I haven't been able to get out for more pictures yet. That and I'm waiting for some weatherstripping from an ebay seller before I go down there again. They're still wet sanding and putting clear coats on it too so it's not entirely finished. Dangerously close though. :2thumbs:

Thanks. Yes it is very encouraging. I finally feel like I'm getting closer to the downhill side of all this. I wish I had more money right now but they pulled the plug in the OT at work again so I'm running on empty. Hopefully I'll be able to get that rebuilt 383 I was talking about recently. The rebuilder has it in storage and told me he would give me the first shot at it when he gets his new shop and starts moving stuff again. It would cost less than rebuilding my original 383.

I don't think there's any green left anymore, Dan. Used to be you could still see hints of it here and there but those days are over.

Anyway, I didn't want to go around yapping about how I was taking the car to the shop and post pictures of the trip there and every little step in the process, yada, yada, blah, blah. At this point I'd rather just get it done and then talk about it. It's nice to give my buddies a surprise once in a while. :2thumbs:

Not sure yet. I think I'm going to run it for a while without one and see what I think. I've seen a few lately without them and they look pretty good. I know it's an illusion but the straight black Chargers don't seem to look as long as the other colors.

I'm not as pissed as one might think. :icon_smile_big: I know this is going to be a high maintenance deal compared to the original green but like I've said in the past, if I painted it green I'd still want a black Charger. As far as the Kent show. I'm really hoping to drive up there in '09 because I doubt the money will be there to finish it by this summer.

Boy, you people have good memories. I can't remember last Tuesday. Anyway, PER was the original plan but then I heard about this other guy from my brother. He quoted me about the same price as PER quoted me to rebuild mine but then he told me he had a 383 that was for another customer who can't pay his bill. It's all ready to go and it's $700 less. He's got it in storage until he finds another shop so I've got a little time to rebuild the money coffers.

What are you doing for taillights?

I'm not entirely sure yet, Mark. My housings aren't in horrible shape so I'm going to take them to a guy to look at and get an estimate for re-plating. If it's too high I'll probably end up with a new set from PG Classic or B/E&A (I can't decide if I care about part numbers or not).

I disagree with this statement....the car needs to to be just as straight for any color , Black ,white, red, silver ,green ,or even brown(or any other color) the body needs to be straight enuf for black or it just plain isnt ready for paint.

That's one way I judged the body shops I visited before all this started. I would tell them I wanted it black and if they started hemming and hawing and looking at the floor I pretty much knew they couldn't hack it.

Here's a couple more pics I took today after delivering the balance of the new weatherstripping I was waiting on. The owner told me he wants it to look "deeper" so they are going to block sand it some more and do some more clear coats on it. I said "do whatever you think you need to do."

I very well could be wrong but I think most body shops don't like to finish someone else's work.  They want full control over what they're painting.   :shruggy:  In a perfect world.
But in your case bull any reputable shop should have no problems following Bill's work IMO. You gotta do what cha' gotta do.

I still say a matte black stripe on that shiny black, like 1hot68 did his.  You seen my hood, the contrast looks looks bitc*in'

Yea, in a perfect world. Actually, all the painters I talked to were ok following someone else, even the two high-end shops I got quotes from. When I told them it only had a thin e-coating on it they knew they could rub it off and get a good look at what took place so they weren't too nervous about it. And I had my own peace of mind knowing what Bill did. Kind of funny thinking about it now but it never really came up as an issue at all like I thought it might. :shruggy:

Either a black stripe or silver. Or nothing. I hear you on the black stripe though. I do like that idea...
