Roller Rocker Question: 1.5, 1.6 or 1.7?

I'm putting the finishing touches on a fresh 440 build using stock heads.  My engine builder is suggesting that I purchase roller rockers for maximum performance.  I have found many different versions and colors but the biggest question I have is the size.

I have found 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7 rockers.  I assume this has to do with how much lift they can handle?  My cam is a moderate Voodoo cam but I don't remember the specs right off the top of my head.

What is the real difference?  And which size should I get?

Thanks!

terrible one

That article was pretty good help to me when I didn't understand the concept of different rocker arm ratios. Maybe it'll help you? Good read nonetheless.

With a fast rate hydraulic cam i would use a 1.5 rocker arm....this will keep the valvetrain more stable at higher rpm and reduce the chance of lifter collapse or valve float.

The crane ductile iron rockers are all you need and they are bulletproof. You won't see any power increase going to a roller rocker over those, inmo.  :Twocents:

Now if you were running a big solid cam and spinning it up to 6500-7000 then a roller rocker would be worthwhile.  ;)

i agree, those rockers are all you need and they will true up your rocker ratio over the stock rockers. plus you don't have to worry about the chance of roller bearings from the rockers coming loose and ended up in the engine.

You mean like these?

Yes Dave...those are the rockers.  :2thumbs:

You will also need the correct pushrods which have a ball and cup design. The pushrod length is different for a hydraulic cam vs a mechanical cam so make sure you order the right ones for your application.  ;)

Hey Ron, (or anyone else)

If you're still watching this thread, where is the best place to buy the rockers listed above?  Summit want's $300.00 for them and it doesn't include the pushrods.  My budget won't currently support that much.  :icon_smile_dissapprove:

Thanks!

Getting ready for a rebuild on my 69's 440 pretty much along these same lines. I too would like to know where to get this as a set with the pushrods.  :popcrn:
