71-74 Charger Experts Hood Trim ?

[1970 RT/SE]

What year Chargers 71-74 came with the front hood trim? was it year or option specific? Could a 71 R/T or Superbee have it ? Thanks great website.

available on all years... but really not sure about if was part of some package or a separate trim option... mostly probably part of SE equipment, and option on the rest

I always find the trim on SE cars (73-74) but thats not to say it didnt come on the regular hardtops as well.  I added it to mine because I like the look.  71-72s have them as well but unsure of which models.

The 71/72 SE cars all had the trim. I think it could be ordered on plain Jane Charger as an option, and I think on Superbees, RT's, and Rallyes, but not 100%. I've seen them on these cars, but may have just been added over the years. Would have to see a brochure. I like the trim and the pieces that come down behind the bumpers.

Most all accessories were optional equipment...standard on some models....can't find those options??....I bet they were standard epuipped like wheel lip moldings..except coupe..
Here's some examples with a back in the day cost for '71 ...lol...most expensive option was a Hemi..then air conditioning..then 6 pak..followed by a sunroof then cassette.. ..sure grip upgrade was 45 bucks

My car has it's original hood and it has the hood moulding on the front of the hood and did have it on the valance.

'71 only....standard equipment on SE..I think front of hood trim and rear decklid trim along with the eyebrow pieces came on all models except coupe.... ....all other trim was optional or included with the model.....73-4 trim has a different appearence with a stepped ledge yet the bumper reveal modings, front hood and decklid kept the same design for all 4 years....73-4 trim is also aluminium over previous years being stainless....I like all the extra trim as you may notice......it shows off the contour shape of the body lines...I have all the trim possible for '71 except for the top of the door trim...it was only available with a half vynil top....

I also love trim, chromes and everything related... I just dont have the front of hood/fenders, and end of lid/quarter extensions, because they don't exist here.

The stone shield mouldiing was an option not standard on all Chargers and if I recall the wrap around mouldiing was not standard.. It had to be ordered.My car is a Y14 car and it is checked off on my broadcast sheet uner mouldings.
My car does not have the wrap around moulding,just the peice at the front of the hood and on the valance(valance trim now MIA! )

Just a quick note:The original fenders on my cra from what I see did not come with the full wrap around trim(like the 71 SE's)I see no evidence,ie,metalwork,bondo,etc that the trim was ever there.

The stone shield is standard equipment on '71 SE only is what I was stating and optional on all other models....I don't believe it is available on other years other than '71...so what's a Y14 car?? ..special order..right...looks like your car is an R/T...is there an option code on your broadcast sheet for the hood trim?  I think the front of hood and trunk lid trim were optional on R/T and superbee and coupe models and standard equipped on all other models...most web pics of original or restored cars show the R/T and superbee with no hood, trunk or sill molding trims...notice M31 and M25 (N.A. R/T or Superbee) M42 standard on SE..and I believe the bumper surround or reveal moldings were standard equipped on SE only and not available on any other models...my parts manual states SE only..the 500 model was second best dressed up model under the SE before additional options were chosen..that is an unusual optioned R/T you have with the luggage rack!!!  ..a friend just has had a recent '71 R/T purchase it has the H41 option and an air grabber car...He's got a partial broadcast sheet so I'll take a look....going to see it tomorrow..
