07 charger question

hello all and a happy new year to you all also. me and my wife are looking at a 07 charger r/t and i am wandering what do you guys think about the car. what kind of milege will I get? and any issues i'll face with the car,like recalls, maintance problems and so on. i really need your help on this gang so any input will be appreciated. thanx in advance.  Tom

The new "Charger" is kind of a sore spot around here. It is a very nice car though. Just not a Charger.

Mileage with the 5.7 is around 18mpg average real world driving, the little 2.7 gets 28mpg, and the high output 3.5 gets 22-25mpg.

i got 22 driving a 2.7 around, and 15 mpg with every hemi i've had.. that's city/highway. don't expect close to 20 out of a hemi. i don't know about any recalls, unless they are currently having people bring back the body shell to be redesigned

  ok,ok, guys I know its not a charger,but its still a great car to drive. I still cant believe they made it a 4 door but what ever .anyway I thank you for your input cause it will make a difference to me wether I fight for it or not. with gas at 3.10 a gallon i'm not so sure I want to get a car that only gets 15 to 18 average. anyways more input plese this is great....Tom

it would have to be a lease return though, so maybe once my 300 M hits 100 K miles... it's just at 70,000 now...
by then gas may very well be $4 a Gal.

I am surprised the Hemi's are only getting 15-18mpg average. My '05 Jeep Grand Cherokee Hemi with full time 4wd gets 17mpg all around and will get 21-22mpg hwy going 65-70mph.

A friend of mine has a new charger, so i decided to see how the power level compared to my 69' with a 440. I kinda chuckled to myself when he stomped the pedal didnt seem overwhelmed  or blessed with power

it takes X amount of fuel to make X amount of horse power. there is no way around that. all V8's get about the same mileage. plus i bet that you don't stomp it as hard in the Grand as you would in a Charger.

Ponch is pretty heavy too. Relax, I probably outweigh you by 50 lbs.

But back to the topic. How does someone who's been registered here almost a year and posted 99 messages somehow escape the fact that the new "Charger" is a bit of a hot button? Are you trying to stir the pot, tkkruzer? I know it's been a whole month or so since we've had a new "Charger" go-around but I think it would be nice if we could go a little longer next time. Maybe a good solid three months.

There are a lot of variables involved with fuel economy depending on what vehicle a particular engine is in. With the same driving habits a 2wd hemi Charger should get better mileage than my 4wd Jeep. The Jeep is heavier, sits higher up, has lower gears, and has more drivetrain resistance. My wifes '95 Mercury Cougar with a 210 horse 4.6 V8 will get 30mpg on the interstate and 24mpg combined city/highway. I would bet there is not a 4wd Ford truck out there that can claim that type of economy with the same 4.6 V8. In fact a friend has a '97 Ford 4wd with a 4.6 V8 and he gets about 17mpg highway with it.

If guys are in stop and go traffic with a Charger I would say 15mpg is good. My overall economy with the Jeep in combined city and highway driving is in the 17-18mpg range. In the winter it is a little less at 15-16mpg which is typical of any vehicle. So either my Jeep is exceptionally good or the new Chargers are exceptionally bad(no pun intended) .

ok guys sorry about bringing up the new charger issue,so to make all happy and me get the needed info lets call the car the dodge wiggett R/T that way we wont get confused as to what we are talking about. which is a CAR nothing more anyway I went and bought the thing and am very happy with my wiggett R/T. i'm getting near 20 mpg combined right now and was wandering if this was low or high or what. regardless of the name of the car, I still like it and I hope you guys will accept me as I am an old fart driving a Wiggett R/T :2thumbs:thanx for the input all.   Tom

thanx for the kind words, ita a dark maroon color with a gray leather interior. it rides smooth and fast. you all have to understand that this the first V8 car i've owned since 89 when i sold off my 72 R/R. since then all i've had were V6's and 4cyl's and let me tell you its like riding a young woman after you have been taking matters into your own hands for so long I just dont compare the classics of the past with the machines of today,so its just a classy new car thats fun to drive. have a great day gang...   Tom

bull & I are cool.  We just have opposite spectrum's of taste.  We rode over 300 miles on the road together last summer one day and not once did I have to pull over so he could punch me after every '06 & '07 I so graciously pointed out for him.  Truth be told, his little girls told me bull has a secret fascination with the new car (posters, t-shirts, etc.)  I don't think he wants anyone to know. 

His analogy just hit home if I took it literally.  Same with yours.  Which gets me to thinking again...

I am too young for that. I was born in '66 and like a lot of guys here I'd love to have seen them on the showroom floor. By the time I was 16 there was nothing but early '80s junk all over the car lots in my home town. But I fell in love with a red '70 Charger on my school bus route at the age of 14 and by age 15 I owned it. The only '80s vehicle I ever owned was a 1985 Dodge Ram 4x4 short bed pickup. I really enjoyed that rig.

Once you get on the photosize website scroll down to the "Exact Size Resizing" area and you'll find a browse box in the first table that says "Width: Selectable" (don't use the first box at the top of the page). Browse to find the picture you want (it helps to have your picture folder open already so you can see which picture you prefer) load it, type 700 in the "width" box and hit okay (700 is a good size for this site). After 30 seconds or so photosize will resize and display your picture in a 700 pixel width and display the old and new file information. As long as the new filesize is less than 200 KB you're good to go. Then just right click on the picture and "save as" somewhere to your computer and you can then load that image here using the browse box below the text box when you reply. Remember, you have to put something in the text box when you reply here or it won't work. Some guys just do a little smiley or a dot or something unless they have something to say, it doesn't matter as long as there's something that's considered text there.

Why you....

2.7 for me no more. 

I got a 2008 R/T just about 2 months ago. The mileage isn't all that great if you do a lot of street driving. But on the highway, once the MDS kicks in it will get you 22-25 (some of my buddies have gotten 27-28) depending on how you drive it. It's really not that much less than the 2.7. The 2.7 might have been a smaller engine, but it had to work harder to move the 3900lb car. The R/T handles much better than the lower level models, and if you still want more handling, there are always tons of low mileage SRT suspensions floating around for cheap ($300-400)

Otherwise, not many issues that I know of. At least nothing major.

Oh yeah...and you might want to check out LXForums.com instead of Chargerforums. The folks at CF tend to be less newbie friendly and kinda look down on you if don't have a Hemi car.
