Well... I couldn't take it anymore - I needed to go for a cruise. I left my house in Queens this morning at 7am and cruised up to Bear Mtn. in upstate NY with a couple of friends - the roads were crap, there was snow in corners and the car was FILTHY when I got home but I have to say I enjoyed every one of the 223 miles I put on that car today! I say to hell with winter... drive the bastards! 






... and no worries, the car has since been thoroughly washed both above and below and now sits covered in the garage with a fresh coat of winter wax! (that part sucked though  )

Indiana does the same stupid thing, they put the same amount of salt and crap down for an inch of snow as they do for 25 inches it seems,  :brickwall:roads look white till april when the steady rains finaally wash away the salt

To me, its not worth the time you had to spend cleaning it up afterwards.....but, on the other hand, that's how they looked as new cars being enjoyed year round.

As long as you had a good time... go for it.       Touchless automatic car washes do a decent job afterwards.   

I thought about going around the block but I got over a foot of snow on the lawn and the roads are all messed up.

That was more fun than grocery shopping with the ol' lady like I did.

My '69 was sold new in Alberta. Those Albertan salty road winters did alot of rust damage to the car and then when it came to B.C. and sat in the last owners yard, that didnt help it either. When my car is done, it'll stay inside during the winters

Yes the car got dirty, yes there was salt on the roads and yes I blasted the under carriage of the car for a good 15 minutes with a high pressure hose so I got it as clean as I could. Would I take it out tomorrow and do the same thing?... ABSOLUTELY! I'll be perfectly honest with everyone and say that this car was the BEST purchase I've ever made - I enjoy the crap out of and I'll be damned if I'll save it for someone else to enjoy.

One day this car will start to get some rust and when that day happens I'll bring it to the body shop and have it fixed, just like when the tires wear out I'll replace them or when shocks go I'll replace them too. This is why the car will NEVER be done, it's a driver - there is always room for improvement, there are always things that can/should be changed. This car was new ONCE - 40 years ago, now it is just a really cool old car that the current owner really enjoys.

I can understand eveyone's avoidance to driving these car year round, but honestly, that's not me. It's supposed to be 60 hear in NYC tomorrow and you can bet that I WILL have the car out cruising through NYC tomorrow night for another little cruise.

The salt on they put on Wisconsin roads in the winter destroys all the cars in the state sooner or later. It takes til around the end of April for the rain to wash it all off. You can wash your car super good, and you still can never get it out of the frame where it gets in at the gaps. Mike is definatly brave.

That he is! Its his car so I'm not gonna tell him how or when to drive it. The car looks great clean and it still looks great dirty! I'm having problems affording to finish my Charger. After all the money I plan on putting in it, I'm going to be abit weary about driving it in the winter. I can barely afford to finish it right now, I don't think I could afford to re-do it because of rust from salty roads .

If Mike wants to enjoy his car year round that's fine with me    I don't have the desire for doing the clean-up....however,

If a car is stored in a DRY place - the salt is ineffective.....unless it gets moisture, dampness or some humidity. Dry salt won't eat anything.  You could drive it in salt, wash it, put it away in a dry environment, and be okay as long as it stayed dry..... I would also recommend driving it in a heavy spring rain - -  just to thoroughly wash everything out like WI Charger Guy said....   After all, it is an investment.

Correct! I have a bucket of salt in my room for my fish tank and it dosent harm the walls or anything where as when the salty water from the tank splashes onto the walls, you have to wash it quickly or else in a weeks time, the wall wont look too pretty

  Rain or snow is no big deal.  Throw road salt in there and you can almost listen to them rust. The worst part is when the salt gets in places where you can't get clean. The heavy slush days are by far the worst. Often times the wheelwells on my daily driver are completely filled with that salty stuff. 

Nobody can ever claim Mike doesn't drive the wheels off his car so my hats off to him.  He enjoys his car and the upkeep that goes along with it so  .

I've driven mine in the salt plenty enough in the old days, I'm not doing it any more.
I wish I had taken some pics back then, my Charger was scary nasty...big frozen bo-daggots hanging off the rear quarters (the kind that scrape the ground while driving & sound like you lost a wheel when they fall off), headlight doors frozen open, the whole car looked as white as the top was. No wonder I could see rust advancing each spring.
Glad I stopped when I did.

I went to that website....and I don't buy into that.  Ferrous Oxide (rust) will eventually penetrate all metals. The best defense is a tough offense. Protect it well, keep it clean, and you won't have any problems.  Like something else.....
