How does the emergency break light work?

I have to get some answers quick because its my daily driver. Its a 68 dodge charger, and the emergency break light on the dash wont come on. Light bulb has been replaced and checked, there is also a wire floating around in the back of the dash, where if you touch it to the frame of the car the emergency break light will come on. This is probably why my emergency break light never comes on. So where does the wire go?

I forgot to mention that the wire has a cone piece at the end of it, as if something needs to be plugged in.

:shruggy: where is the dist block? The wire that turns on my emergency break light is hanging down a couple inches away from the emergency break, and i can only stretch the wire a few inches.

The parking brake light switch is very similar to a door jam switch, it fits in a hole in the pedal bracket; the plunger in the switch is held in by the tension of the pedal return spring, when the pedal is pushed the plunger extends and makes a ground for the light.

Follow the pedal arm up into the bracket and look for the switch (or the hole for it if missing) above the pivot pin for the pedal arm.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

yeah, forgot to attach the emeregency brake pedal info, sorry!!! is bullet kind termial and swicth is attached as John stated to the emergency brake pedal assembly. Mostly sure you'll need to remove kick panel to see it.

Light turns on on two situations!!! when fail on brake fluid system ( on dist block ) and with emergency/parking brake is pressed
