So, Today was the first day of my design studio class. Our instructor informed us that we have a chrysler sponsored studio  :drool5:

Meaning that chrysler is paying for a majority of the supplies for us to design a car to be branded under them. This doesnt mean that a car I design IS going to be somethign they will come out with, but it does mean that it could potentially and I could have some influence in the designs of chrysler in the future.

The restriction that we have right now is that the car we are designing (under the chrysler, dodge or jeep badge) has to be a 4 seater....

:scratchchin: Now what should I do

:icon_smile_big:

Well, hurry up and make 4 Doors and put a body around it ;)

I say something sporty! Without that god awful grill, Fight the urge to go retro, Stick main stream  :2thumbs:

That's really cool!  My word of advice would be to make something that doesn't have the exact same grille design that every other new Dodge has currently (except for the Challenger.  I'm glad they changed the grille on it)   :Twocents:

On a side note, the A/C unit in my apartment is made by the Chrysler Corporation.  It even has an Airtemp emblem on it!

I really dont know what im doing yet, a lot of people want me to do the charger b/c they know I have one, but I havent decided yet. I have narrowed it down to two things at this point.

Jeep surf car - they can just be really fun
BIG luxury sedan - Cause the 300 is looking a bit dated

The year we are looking at is 2020-2025 so we are able to anticipate some cutting edge technology becoming mainstream. ie Hydrogen, new battery technologies, whatever I think is applicable.

It doesnt have to be a 4 door, but it does have to be a 4 seater. I don't think I'm going to be doing a dodge, but If I do I'm going to try and do away with the cross hair grille, but unfortunately I will have to stick with an adaptation of it in order for my professors and chrysler to accept a dodge as a dodge.

Anyways, Ill probably post some of the stuff im working on as I scan it into the computer.

Im also going to try and focus quite a bit on the interior, as that is what my senior project is going to be focusing in (thats the back door to the automotive design world)

The exterior is of course VERY important since thats what everyone is going to look at first, but I want the interior to have a bit of wow to it.

I would love to see more Jeep cars. The compass is nice, but they could have done better. I really wanted a compass when I say the first drawings. But then it came out a little boxier then I wanted.

I took that same class in '99-'00. (UC ID correct?)

Is Brigid O'Kane still teaching?  We were given either a Viper, Prowler or Copperhead (I was assigned a Copperhead).  My only problem was at the time they wanted us to design a car for the 'current' time frame instead of future concept cars.  Hope you like to sketch! :2thumbs:....and clay!

Thats awesome, I wasnt aware there were any ID people on here, though i should have suspected at least one. Bridget is still there. we  now have a whole program set up, its really grown since then. You should go by and visit the new trans studio that we have now. We got a 420 million dollar pace grant so we have a really nice area now. the rest of the school is jealous :D

The surf car they as few years ago was pretty interesting - a hard top min van...
I guess so you could put your surf baord IN the vehicle if you wanted...

alfanta

Yeah, Im diggin the surf vehicles, the kahuna and such. I think there is some potential there.

Yeah, I graduated in 2001.  I've heard that they now have two distinct 'paths' - i.e. Transporation vs. ID much like CCS.  Is that how they are doing it now?  When I was there you had the choice as a pre-junior or junior of taking the auto class or your regular 3D studio....I went with auto studio. :yesnod:

Some of my classmates went on to work in Detroit - I opted not to....for various reasons. ;)

yeah, we have two separate programs now. Its been pretty good, we got 2 people on the future car show as some of the 8 designers from GM last year, and the program has gotten much more globally competitive. They need to be much more brutal in the gradings though. right now too many people are just slipping by with cs and it doesnt look good for our program.

anyways, gotta go sketch!
