Sorry to have to ask this, I did a search and didnt see anything like this,  on the side of my 383, where the id plate should be just above the oil pan, I found this:

1D1090_3

the zero before the 9 is "faded" you almost cant tell what it is, but three of us agreed that it was a zero...

I was expecting to see something like the last six digits of my vin :) does anybody know what this could be?

That's the last six digits of a VIN belonging to a 1971 car built at the Belvedere plant so it originally came in a "C" body.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

If it's a 2-barrel engine it has a cast crank and will need external balancing.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Nothing wrong with it at all. Just took the car apart to get ready for paint and body work.

as far as the motor I guess I'd rather have a 440 to be honest about it.  However, if it had been orginal, I'd put enough money in it to make it fun.  Right now it doesn't matter, I'll be lucky to get the car painted and put back together the way it is, much less work up this motor or any other one

Don't rule out a low deck stroker when the times either.  :icon_smile_wink:
