what do you think about The keisler automatic to manual conversion? did anybody do it on a 68 charger? does it worth the money?

Charger-Bodie

I did the auto to 5 Speed conversion on my 68 Charger. I think it was worth it, though it is a lot of cash. Anything else you want to know , just ask! :2thumbs:

If you're leaning this way, check out Classic Mopar 5 Speed.  I'm considering the conversion as well and they appear to be cheaper than Keisler.  Also, there is an article on the conversion in this Month's 'Mopar Muscle'

I've been told they aren't happy with lots of power/torque.

I still can't make up what to decide..... my 69 was an auto car but will be 4 speed and so I need all the parts but it is alot of money.... . With an original 4 speed the cost will probably get almost as high if you do it right. But you can purchase / search for the parts one by one and spread the costs

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

I have also been told that they are not happy if you have a bunch of torque.
I am going with an upgraded 6 speed tremec, that is rated to 1200 hp, and 1000 footpounds of torque.  :D
D&D Performance, and Rockland Standard Gear does them. They don´t throw em after you for nothing though!!
But i think it is what you need, if you have a strong engine, and want to abuse it, specially if you have tires that has deacent bite!!
Since we only live once, and all this is not just a dressed rehearsal, but the real thing............ Well, enjoy it!!!!

sick dawg

I was thinking about it, but it sounds like a lot of trouble for the kind of mula I'll have to spend for it.
I think I just might go ahead and keep my lazyboy auto. :icon_smile_cool:

i have  been looking into this since i want to do the swap myself.  from what i read from people that did this keisler kit swap about 40% or so of them ran into problems while installing it and is keisler's fault. wouldn't it be alot cheaper if you buy the parts here and there instead of buying the kit from keisler and piece it together? that's the route i plan on going.

Charger-Bodie

Im very happy with mine and i felt I was treated very well by the folks at Keisler  :Twocents:

471 Magnum had the Keisler in his last Charger and he was throwing some pretty torque at it.  He'd have to speak for himself though as far as being satisfied.  As far as I know he was.

I had some issues with Keisler on their 5-speed kit they sent me for a customer's car...

I have over 7000 miles or more on mine.    My issues were with the hydraulic throwout setup more than anything to do with the trans.   Works fine now.    There's other vendors and other ways to do it if you have the time.

Rather than debate the merits of a 5 speed vs GV or whatever have you... just let it be my opinion that anybody that is going to put miles on their car shoud seriously consider some sort of overdrive system...  unless you're going for the 2.76 no fun gear solution.    Sitting in the right lane poking along with the motor buzzing blows.

The hydraulic throw out system did not fit (see above posts), they sent a driveshaft that was not to my measurements (and with the wrong universal joint), Sent the incorrect instructions, Bellhousing mounting was an issue as well (see above posts) clutch kit did not include all the parts, and their customer service i received when i called about this was pittiful.
