:iagree: Dont buy the 2.5L.  that thing sucks..   I dont think they had an official 96 model year Wrangler did they?

They came out in the 1997 model year with coils.   I had a 97 4.0L 5 speed, had 138,000 miles on it when i sold it.  I redlined every shift in that thing.  I tend to beat on my vehicles and that Jeep was tough!  God i miss my Jeep...

The 2.5 in my 95 Wrangler is worn out at about 140K miles. But, to be fair, the girl who owned it before me didn't take care of it. I have a remanufactured engine in the garage to install when I get back to the states. If you can find an affordable one, get the 4.0. I've had three of those and they're great. Rated at about 190hp they feel a lot more powerful than the 215hp 3.7 in our Liberty. Some of the mid-90s Cherokees were prone to door hinge cracking. The hinge on the driver's door of our 94 cracked. Right now we have two Cherokees, a Wrangler, and a Liberty. All great vehicles.

And no, there were no 96 model year Wranglers. 95 was the last year of the YJ and the TJs were introduced as 97s. Maybe it was different for overseas markets but that's how it was in the U.S.

'91 Cherokee. 4.0 F.I. auto.   20 mpg.     Paints faded, looks like crap but I only paid $1500 for it.

A friend has an older jeep, the damn thing rides rough, after a week you'll hate it. The coil over is like driving a car, I'm not kidding. I can hook a turn and not think twice. I can drive over a pothole and not bounce into the other lane. I'm tellin gyou. get a 97 or better, they can be found at good prices. and they kick ass in the winter!

I was putting her sideways in the snow and recovering ithout even thinking

im pretty sure that they stopped carbs in 89,we have a 90 we use for plowing and its fuel injected

WOW those are all high km cars.... but if your on a budget......   i guess drive one of each over some railroad tracks and around corners and see if you can live with the leaf springs.   You know with a coil spring Jeep Wrangler you can pull the front left tire off the ground on a hard left hand turn in second gear... ;D   But it'll break stuff after you do it too many times... :icon_smile_blackeye:

What’s 163,000 km in miles? I suck at math?

My 2 cent. Half doors are a bit noisy. And the lack of a hard time may make you a bit colder in the winter, but the heats in those things are great.
It’s got the right combo, 5 speed, 6 cyl. Take a look at the car, for $6500, I say it's not a bad price.
