Ok. I have a cast crank, got a MP converter. Paul sent me also counterweights to converted to be mounted on BB cast crank with instructions. They state how and where to weld, nice but then, all rotating parts an all engines are balanced equal to make this instructions as an universal step ? or do I need some bigger machine/balancing job on this ?

nacho.. the weights for a 400 with cast crank will need to be welded in specific places on the converter.  usually the instructions come with the weights. let me do some searching... hopefully someone has the diagram on their computer already and will just post the pic.

Nacho states that he has the instructions on where to weld the converter weights, I believe his question has to do with engine balance.

If I understand the question, the factory rotating parts are match balanced to a specific weight but there is still need for external weight with the cast crank. The only way to eliminate the need for external balance is to have the crank internally balanced which requires heavy metal added to the counterweights.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

thanks john, that was a case where i read what i thought he was wanting rather than reading what he really was asking ... lol

Ok my car does have still factory specs and balance. Original engine got broken the crankshaft, so I got a donor engine where I reused EVERY internal part of it, and balancing damper, so still is balanced from fact.

I will intall new pistons KB240s, so I guess will need to be balanced. However dunno must be done. I guess machine shop will make that so I won't worry, BY THE MOMENTS!!!! I would love to make a plug and play pistons fit by myself, since I'm starting to get doubts about machine shops quality job ( based on REALLY bad experiencies with a buddy's Charger )

Now, lets suppose this. I wouldn't change ANYTHING of engine just replace torque converter, how a instruction sheet can tell me WHERE must be welded the counterweights ? Unless all rotating parts are balanced with same specs from fact and that makes an automated job without make any balancing job :shruggy:

why not balance it so you don't need the wieghts welded on?
