I thought you couldn't get A/C with a 383HP?

This guy says the car is one of the 259 383HP 4spds built in 68, and he says it has factory A/C.
I was under the impression that these cars did not come with A/C.
Can anyone correct or confirm this?  Thanks

You are right. You could not get A/C with the HP 335 engine.

'68 383-4bbl Chargers came with the 330 horse version engine whether they had A/C or not and with both transmissions.

68 Super Bees or Road Runners with A/C came with the 330 horse engine instead of the 335 horse HP version.

Yes. When equipped with A/C the RR and SB got the 330 horse engine.

68 STL tags don't have multiple punches like that and it's missing the characteristic upper right hand corner STL stamp.

If I'm not mistaken there are two seperate 68 Chargers listed on Ebay right now claiming to be factory 4 speed cars with A/C.

i think there are more of the 259 383 4 speed chargers around now than when they left the factory. too bad in 68 it's near impossible to tell without the fender tag. thus the bogus claims

I'm just trying to understand why Ma Mopar would create a 383 Road Runner engine and, in some cases, only install the regular HP 383 in a Road Runner.  I can't find any reference to a 3rd engine (383 non-RoadRunner engine) in the '68 Road Runner line up; Only the 383 RoadRunner engine or the 426 Hemi.

I guess that explains some things on my Road Runner. It is a 383 4 speed car with AC. I had read there were no 383 4speed AC cars built. I thought it meant the 4 speed and AC don't go together. I must have misread it from 383HP cars.

The same thing applies. A/C = 330 horse engine.

The 335 horse HP engine was more part of the marketing package than anything else. It's doubtful that you will find any reference to a 'third' engine in the advertisements. You may find a reference similar to the one posted above for the SB in the 68 Plymouth data book.

So physically speaking, there is technically no difference between the 383 HP 4V with air that originally came in my '68 Charger, and the non-air 335HP version?  I always wondered what they did to add only 5 more hp.  Or do I gain an extra 5hp just by taking the air conditioner compressor off the engine?
