OK..I have a 69 4 sp Dana (XS yaddayadda) RT, but the 440 is not original to the car. If i opted to replace the 440 with a 426 would I have:

1. A Hemi R/T Clone
2. A Hemi Clone
3. A Modified R/T
4. Some very fast rust

If I put a hemi in it...is it OK to stick the Hemi callouts on the doors? Or would that be silly.

Either way would be cool but id probably lean toward the 440 if it was me just since thats what it came with.  If you did drop a Hemi into it, it would only be right to add the Hemi badges.

SFRT

If it was the original 440 of course, I d rebuild it and keep it in, but since its not it might be fun to do a nice lookin 426 setup.

sick dawg

I have a 472 hemi in mine and I call it a "Recreation".
I have hemi door badges I cut the studs off and glued to magnets, so I put them on and take them off as I feel like.

sounds a good plan  drop & HEMI in a  R/T charger  , going to do a similar sort of thing  some time soon . but i would not put the badges on the doors . but do what ever makes you happy . but if i was to put the badges on i would cut the studs off & moulding tape (double sided  tape them on ) so you don't have to drill holes in the doors .  in case you want to change the motor again .

I think it would be a very fun to drive 69 Charger RT.

I say fix the rust and leave the 440 for now. You can always spend a small fortune on a Hemi later. I have no problem with Hemi badges on a car that has a Hemi under the hood (original or not). You can do a lot of work to a car for the price of a "correct" looking Hemi.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

69 OUR/TEA

SFRT,I thought about doing the same thing to mine,(a real R/T),but after I started adding everything up,even with just a reg 426 crate motor, mounts, correct intake, manifolds, exhaust, carbs,a correct air cleaner, and so on,you would be nearing in on the $18K-19$K mark. Can do alot of other things with that kind of money,so left it a 440 like it orig is.Take that money and make the car that much nicer, like body, paint, interior, under hood details,etc....

SFRT

the rust has just been removed...all new metal...in the next 6 weeks or so Im going to replace all the fuel lines, brake lines, mount new disc brakes etc. It will also get a an entire new suspension.

Then, even though the current motor runs strong, I will want to rebuild it and perhaps have the  transmission and driveline looked at and re-done...so I was thinking..that maybe instead of rebuilding the 440, just run it to death while a Hemi gets put together. No plans for a fancy paint job at all, ever, just get the body nice and straight and then have it be matte black. I know a guy does real nice matte paint jobs, over in Vallejo.

I wont ever show the car or whatever, I just want a very very strong driver. . Most of the $ is going to go into mechanical. I want all go-no show, if that makes sense.

cost is not a real issue, fortunately, for me, I been saving up :D I just want to make semi-correct choices.

To answer your question I think it would be called a Charger R/T because it's a Charger R/T. Different engines and emblems don't change what the car started out as.

:iagree:   Just do a clean job of it and I'd go ahead and put the badges on it too. After all, when it's done, it woulld be a Hemi car real or otherwise.
