Help with axles

A while go I asked where to get axles.  I had another 8 3/4" which I thought was an E-body housing.  The axles from the extra housing I have still have the stock wheel studs on it.  When measured standing up on a table, they measure about 30", which is what I need for the 8 3/4 in my Charger.  My question is, where do you measure axles from?  Is it studs to the end of the splines?  Thanks guys!
