Clever Little Known Fact

NOW ISN'T THAT A CLEVER UNKNOWN FACT?

Bet you didn't  know this !!!

I have been driving (legally) for over a decade.  One would think  I would have noticed the little secret on my dash that was staring me  right in the face the whole time. I didn't and I bet you probably  haven't either.
Quick question, what side of your car is you  gas tank? If you  are anything like me, you probably can't remember  right away. My solution is to uncomfortably stick my head out the window, strain my neck  and look. If you don't do this in your own car you definitely have done it in a borrowed or rental car.
Well ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to share with you my little secret so you will no longer look like Ace Ventura on your way to the  gas station or put your neck at risk of discomfort or injury.
If you look at your gas gauge, you will see a small icon of a gas pump. The handle of the gas pump will extend out on either the left or right side of the pump. If your tank is on the left, the handle will  be on the left. If your tank is on the right, the handle will be on the  right . It is that simple!
I don't know how you feel right now but when I found out this morning I felt cheated!
Why don't the dealers share such important information with car buyers? I don't understand why this isn't in the drivers manual?  I  don't get why any mechanic  I have ever been too or know has even thought of mentioning this to me?  The only possible explanation can be that all these people probably don't even know!
Go out and  share the worlds best kept auto secret with your friends as this is information is way too important to be kept secret.

mine's right up there on the driver's quarter, just a quick lookie in the side view mirror and I find it every time :2thumbs:

seriousely, though, that is a good tip. Also, many newer cars will have a small arrow on the fuel gauge pointing to the side od the car the door is on.  I have found that most GM cars put it on the driver's side.

I half knew that. Some of the cars we own have a little arrow toward the side the filler is on. My charger has the filler behind the license plate so which way would it point?

I didn't know about the pump handle but I knew about the little triangular pointer. All three of my Dodges have the gas cap on the driver's side.

A lot of the older GM's were behind the license plate so it didn't matter. My Dodge Ram has the arrow.

Thanks for the heads up Jackie.  I never knew that either.  Be kinda hard with my charger with that theory cause there is no gas pump icon in the instrument cluster.

Also, Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Yea but most of us 2nd gen owners only have one mirror and it's pointed right at that big shiny thing on top of the quarter panel. :icon_smile_big:

That's not a true fact.  I checked on a couple cars I have and the graphic is on the opposite side the fuel cap door is on.

I have driven two cars in the past where this was not true! I heard this once on "click and clack" on N.P.R. a few years back and have paid fairly close attention to it ever since. Sorry, Jackie. It may hold true in most cases, but not all.

Our Nitro and Caravan both have the handle on the right and the filler on the left.  I think this myth has been busted Jackie, sorry.

Oh, well what can I say. A Mopar buddy sent it to me and it works out for my car and Shelby's. :shruggy:

Maybe it's part of that " Dodge. Different." ad campaign.

Hey, last Thursday on my way into work, I flashed the highbeams on my Sebring and when I turned them off, there was a new light lit up on my dash. It went off when I put the highs on again and came back on when the highs were off. NO IDEA what the hell it was.

At the next stop, I pulled out the manual to find out what it was.

Look at the manual, glance at the headlight switch, damn, I just figured out how to turn my driving/fog lights on.

Only had the car for 2+ years.....

You expect me to figure out the gas thing now?

Bad start of a day :icon_smile_angry:  Christmas eve, Had my coffee, watched some news, (which always makes me thankful for not being part of it) and headed out the door with a  great start of the day attitude.  I get to the gas station, all excited about my new learned gas pump light handle thingy, and I look at it , Oh pump Handle on right side.  I go to the right side and spent like 15 Min's out in the cold, I couldn't find it :shruggy:  Stupid gas door was on the Left side of the truck.  Had people backed up and beeping at me for taking so long.  I kept yelling, Hold off I'm looking for my darn gas door!!  Stupid Ford people put the wrong picture on the dash. :nana:  You realize this is one of those things that will follow you?  I take it we will see you this summer in PA.  You'll here all sort of stories like, sorry I'm late ran out of gas on the parkway, couldn't find my gas door this morning to fuel up?  Hope you have a good sense of humor.   :nana:  Ah Merry Christmas anyway.

Old Moparz

When I had a '69 Charger as a daily driver, I was once out with a girlfriend going someplace during a snow storm. We stopped for gas & the attendant came over to the window & I rolled it down. He asked what gas & how much, I told him & rolled the window back up. Now after a period of time, and not just a few seconds, I mean at least 2 minutes, the attendant came back to the window & knocked. I rolled the window down & he asks, "Where does the gas go on this thing?" My girlfriend broke out into laughter, & I got out to dust the snow off the top of the quarter panel.

The reason my girlfriend laughed so hard, was only because we had a conversation about the car earlier, & the big chrome gas cap being in plain view was part of it.

I think this gauge is more accurate since this whole, which side of the car has the gas cap, has holes in it.

Well the only way I can ever tell since I'm driving a different vehicle just about every day at work is to see where the arrow is on the dash cluster. Oddly enough I've also noticed that on the newer vehicles that the fuel gauge also seems to corelate to which side of the vehicle they are on as well. Not on all of them though so that theory doesn't work either.

If that held true for a Charger then the filler neck would be in the center of the car as the fuel gauge is closer to the center of the dash panel.
