Changing from standard taillights on a 71, to R/T style - what's involved

G'day guys.

at the moment my 71 Bee has the standard taillights on it, but I'd like to get a set of R/T, 500 style lights.

Can anyone tell me how involved it is to make the change. Outwardly it looks as simple as bolting them in and readjusting the wiring a little - is that it ? If I got a set could I stick them straight in without too many hassles ?

Also, if the sockets are stuffed, can they be simply replaced using the original Bee lights ?

Any help or advice is appreciated.

That's all there is to it, bolt 'em in and Plug in the wire harness. (it's the same plug on the wire harness) I did it with my '71 I had in high school. I had a complete bumper with the lights in it. I could change it out in less than ten minutes, Six bolts, Two nuts and a ground wire.

OK.....now what if some of the sockets need replacing ?

Is it possible to remove the light sockets from my existing "standard" housings and install them in an R/T set ?

Oh.....and thatnks heaps for replying. I can't even look at a set here in Australia to find out for myself.

you could... BUT, they sell aftermarket sockets so you dont have to ruin a set of housings.

remember, the lights ground through those sockets as well as through the wire so do not silicone them from the underside (i.e. between the socket and the housing).

Thanks for the tip. I don't know what's available over there, that's why I need to ask. I'm looking at a set at the moment....need a bit of work though. Trouble is i don't want to get them and then find out I've blown my money on something i can't use. With Christmas I'm a little short, but I'd really like a set if I can afford them.
