Hiya Folks,

Last Friday night Andre Rieu was in Toronto for the first of his two night stay. He is doing a stadium tour of the World, only making about 7 or eight stops. He has only selected a few cities because of the size of the production.

Who is Andre Rieu you ask? He is a Dutch conductor who has his own orchestra and tours the World entertaining thousands of people.    :violin:   The music he and his orchestra make is beautiful, truly beautiful.   :'(

The stage was built to resemble a palace in Vienna, complete with horse drawn carriages, figure skaters, ballroom dancing and of course no concert would be complete without fountains in the audience. Rather than simply play waltzes all night, he had tenors as well as his angelic singers who put tears in the eyes of everyone in the audience.

My Wife I got rid of the Children and booked a room right near the Skydome, had dinner out and had a fantastic time.

I can post more details about the show as I post the photos.

Thought some of you would like to see these photos.

Cool. Looks like a very fancy production.

I've been to a few classical music concerts and have always enjoyed them. The fastest way to screw up classical music IMO is to let someone start singing.

It was over the top Bull!

As far as the singing goes, I personally think it really added to the show.

As the lights dimmed before the show, horse drawn carriages brought the orchestra out in groups of four to the stairs leading to the stage. Once everyone was seated the show began.

He did some Christmas carols as well. He instructed the crowd to listen to the first round, the second round we were to simply hum along and the third round we were all to sing.

He then started Silent Night. Imagine 20,000 + people humming along for the second round and then singing along for the third round - very sweet indeed!

His first encore was Oh Canada, again everyone siging along, and then finished the night with Amazing Grace.

That right there would make the whole concert worth going to.

Hell, I'd even buy tickets to watch cars get cleaned at the car wash for a night out somewhere.

Sounds like quite the production.. Glad you two had a great time out. We parents don't usually take enough time out for ourselves anymore.  Now with GRAND CHILDREN we are finding ourselves with even less time.

It was very nice to have some adult time.

As a matter of fact, we're sending them away this weekend as well as we are having a Christmas/Housewarming party on Saturday night.

This is not normally like us to be away from the children for two weekends in a row as it is rare that we don't inlcude them in all that we do, but as mentioned, it sure is nice to have some adult time.  I'd have to say that one of the best parts about the mommy and daddy time is to be able to have a conversation without a little one tugging on your pantleg saying daddy every three seconds.
