Pictures of my Kitchen Remodel

So plan B of my home remodel that i have been working on for two years was to open up the kitchen with the dining room.  We have a standard 1923 St. Paul Bungalow with a tiny assed kitchen and a small door way to the dining room.  The wall is not load bearing so it was time to take it down.  Here are the pictures of the demo.

The area on the right was where the basement stairs used to be.  I moved the stairs to a different part of the house.  So this area was ready to be opened up to the kitchen.  The original maple floor pulled up very easily.  I wanted to pull it up and re-lay it back down while weaving it back in with the dining room so that it goes un-noticeable to anyone that comes over.  Every thing i do with this house i try and make it as un-obvious as possible.

Took some time off from the kitchen project to go deer hunting.  Look at this monster buck!   

I was sitting on a drive and a big doe came by and i got too excited right away and i missed it.  Then i hear some shots from my cousin over the hill and i thought, ok, he got it.  then this nubbin buck comes running back to me and i can barely see it thru the brush.  so i pull up my gun and follow it along till it gets to a clear spot.  I pull the trigger thinking it was the same deer that i missed.  Well, right after i shoot i realize, sh!t, that was a different deer.  Oh well, i got my earn-a-buck tag used up on this one anyways,.  I really wished i wouldnt have got it though, but here it is.

Floor is back down (got my #1 guy on the job) and the center island is built.  I bought base cabinets and put a Formica top on it.  Not too fancy with this remodel.  I'm already 50% over budget.  I was shooting for $1200 and doing this little fix up as frugal as i could.  Every damn trip to Menards and/or Home Depot for litte stuff that adds up cost me $100 here, $100 there, etc...  I'm pretty much 99% done.  (they are never done, just like your Charger)

Paul, great job.. I'm guess that wall wasn't a load-bearing one.... If so, what did you do for support? It did make a whole world of difference in space and openness..

I had to do something similar two years ago because my refregerator water line leaked dwon the back of the wall and into the floor and rotted it out. I had to pull the island and the lazy susan out and rip up all of the sub floor and put in all new. Man what a job that way. Hopefully I'll never have to do that again.

Great job Paul. 

I did my kitchen remodel 6 years ago and never regretted it. Next up is remodeling the bathroom and hopefully adding a half bath upstairs.

I havent had that yet but a guy at work who likes Makers Mark has talked about it.  Maybe he will buy some and let me try it.

Not load bearing.  Just the center wall of the house (on the right) is load bearing.

Did you see the first installment of the remodel? He added a second story to the house! (But I can't seem to find the pictures.) Meanwhile, he also became a wildlife expert, poured a concrete slab for the neighbor, and dropped a Hemi in his 69 500 so he could make it to the aero car meet and hang out with some really cool people.

This kitchen didnt take two years.  It was about a 6 week project. (my body feels like it took two years though... D'oh!)

I see we now have pictures of the second floor. I'd tackle the kitchen remodel in a heartbeat after that!

Did I mention that I love open spaces so practically any house I look at has too many walls. Unfortunately, with my skill set it'd probably take months to accomplish anything like this (and that's just getting it torn out). Three of the houses I've shared with roommates have undergone complete remodels so you'd think I'd have some sort of experience by now (other than sleeping in odd locations).
