Dangit, denied car insurance!

I had been covering my car through progressive just for sake of convenience, but this is costing a fortune. So I called Heacock. For 60K agreed value and a 3k mile a year limit they wanted $546. I said I plan to race it a few times a year and they said no problem, you just won't be covered on the strip itself -- however, they wanted to know my driving record. Well, I have had 3 speeding tickets in my Subaru in the last 3 years (one for 20-24). So they said they can't cover me at all, regardless of whether or not I was racing the car.

Next stop, Hagerty. For roughly the same coverage they want $901 a year. However, when I told them I planned to race a few times they said it was doubtful they could cover me at all what with my 3 speeding tickets.

What should I do?

I have Hagerty and pay a little over $400/year for three cars with a value similar to what you are asking for. Are they charging you more because your car is modifed or because of the tickets?

You can try Grundy or J.C Taylor if noone else will insure you with classic insurance.

I mentioned it's modified, but they were more concerned about the speeding tickets it seems.

1st problem is it's a Classic car.2nd problem is the value.3rd problem is your Tickets. Also , if you are under 25, single and past 7 years driving record , and don't forget your credit history.

I would never tell an insurance company that you'll be racing the car, since they won't cover it at the track anyway it's best not to mention it.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Well, there is the parking lot at the track. Heacock, at least, was pretty specific about that saying they will cover you at the track facilities, but not on the strip itself.

I use www.americancollectorsins.com for both my cars.

I agree with John, never offer any info more than you have to to insurance companies....let them do the work & find out on their own

yeah modified is one part that is costing you a lot more. when i first had my general lee insured with hagert i told them modifed.. after a while i asked them what modified consisted of.. and how much more it was. it was significant.. well i switched to stock. basically it is a stock car with stickers and a push bar. if they didn't cover those items you'd still come out ahead by not paying that extra premium. either way with your age and 3 speeding tickets you're screwed. luckily my record is clean and i have 9 cars through hagerty and it's $900 a year for them all. probably $200k or so in coverage

Well I'm 33. My regular insurance rate just got reduced this month. I mean my car really is modified beyond just the paint job and push bar. I can apreciate not mentioning that you will go to the track the odd time, but if they ask if it is stock not mentioning the soon to be 517 under the hood and all the rest that goes with that, well... you could be asking for problems later if you are unlucky.  :Twocents:

yeah didn't realize you had modified it that much. thought it was only the general lee scheme. and you're 33, i'm 30. so the age shouldn't have anything to do with it. let's see.. SLOW DOWN. then try again in 2 years.. lol kidding

Well I'm pretty much screwed. I guess I'll have to stick with Progressive which costs a bloody fortune. Some of these companies are ok with speeding tickets, including Hagerty, but not when one or more was for over 15mph.

If your military you can try USAA.com got three cars with full coverage and everything on them gettin charged 132 a month.

Sounds like you might just have to suck it up until one or two of those tickets drop off your record. Speeding in a Subaru? WTH? :slap:

Yup, I'd say you're right about that.

Not just any Subaru, a Subaru Forester. I've done over 110 mph in that thing.  ;)

That's ok. I shouldn't talk because I once got a speeding ticket for doing 75 in a 55 with a Toyota Starlet. I don't know how. :shruggy: We were going up hill and had it loaded down with probably 800 lbs worth of people and camping gear. I was really surprised it would go that fast under the circumstances. It looked just like this one; what a beauty:

We've got an 04 Forester with turbo.

It would be real easy to get in trouble with that car. My wife uses it most of the time so the opportunity
for me to  :drive: isn't that often.

I suppose you have full coverage on some of these cars also....

my friend got a ticket for doing 120mph in his Volkswagen Vanagon. fought the ticket in court, told the judge what the car was, judge said dismissed.

he didn't mention to the judge that he installed the drivetrain from a 3.2l Carrera :2thumbs:

My dad was speeding of course (haha) back in 2000. Drove through Washington, Oregan, Nevada and California. Went to Vegas and Disneyland and Sea World and everything but anyways, just over the bridge from our house on the highway, 3 people infront of my dad are also speeding, all of a sudden, this cop literly runs out onto the middle of the highway and waves the 3 guys plus my dad over to the side of the road. Anyways, the guy asked "do you know how fast you were going" and my dad was like "I dont know, do you know" and the cop said "you were speeding" and my dads like "how do you know that, you dont have a radar gun" and then the cop said "I SAW YOU WITH MY OWN 4 EYES (he had glasses". Anyways, my dad took it to court and won because the cop didnt have proof he was speeding besides "his own 4 eyes".

And that was in a four door Pontiac Bonneville packed with luggage. I tell ya, you'll be going fast and you dont realize it until you look at the speedo :yesnod:

It's all relative anyway. At 42* north the earth is spinniing at about 800 mph and the planet itself is speeding along at around 68,000 mph around the sun. So when you get a ticket for going 90 ...well.
