Nissan and Chrysler may build cars and trucks together

Citing inside sources, Bloomberg reports today that Chrysler and Nissan are
in talks to develop cars, trucks and engines together. Both companies happen
to be the third largest automakers in their home market and both are used to
collaborative efforts in car making. Chrysler is working with Volkswagen on
minivans and Chinese automaker Chery on a small car, for instance, while
Nissan-Renault continues to seek a partner in the U.S. after a proposed
partnership with General Motors fell through. Chrysler and Nissan, however,
are reportedly not considering acquiring any type of ownership in each
other. The co-development would be limited to truck development for Nissan,
small car development for Chrysler and joint development of new engines.
Nissan is likely hoping that tapping into a U.S. automakers' expertise on
full-size trucks will lead to changes that make its Titan pickup more
competitive. Chrysler, meanwhile, is still without a car smaller than the
Caliber and could benefit from Nissan's experience selling small cars in
Japan and Europe. Again, the talks are private so neither company has
confirmed they're in discussions, but collaboration on this scale seems to
becoming more common in the industry, especially for automakers that aren't
the biggest, but aren't the smallest, either.

One thing I can tell you, I worked in a Dodge Dealer and we also sold Lexus and Infiniti vehicles, I would DEFINITELY own a Nissan (Infinitis are hi dollar Nissans) than the overpriced Toyotas.

From what I saw the Nissans were much better vehicles.

The Titan has issues, and it is possible that Nissan could use some help in the Truck department.  Chrysler's small car segment has been spotty at best since the intro of the Neon.

Could be a good match. MAYBE Chrysler would be able to get really competitive in the small car segment.

"Chrysler is not confirming recent reports of a possible alliance with Nissan, following a story by Bloomberg suggesting that the companies were in discussion on the matter. Both companies already have forged cooperative deals with other automakers. Chrysler Chairman and CEO Bob Nardelli told reporters yesterday at a media event that he had not spoken with Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn, but he said Chrysler needed to look at potential global partnerships. Chrysler already has several global ventures as part of the company's focus on global growth, which is one of its Five Fundamentals for long-term success. Chrysler will produce a minivan for Volkswagen AG in North America, while Nissan collaborates with Suzuki Motor Corp. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. on minicar production. Nissan also said this week that it would build a mid-size pickup based on its Frontier truck for Suzuki at its Smyrna, Tenn., plant. "

I had a couple small Dodge pickups, that were made by mitshubishi, same as mitshubishi cept for the emblems,   like the '90s ford and mazda small trucks were the same truck, cept for the grill.

Anyways, I thought it was cool to have a Dodge truck with the reliablility/economy of mitshubishi.  They were an 82 and an 85, little work trucks, and they were well built , very reliable, heavy duty for a small truck, carried 3/4 yard of gravel in the back of the 82, (that was a little overloaded, heh), towed a huge trailer with that truck also no problem, drove the heck out of both trucks always loaded with equipment and ladder rack and ladders, good amount of weight, no problems, only thing I ever did on all the miles on em was a clutch in one of them

IMO dodge will benefit for a nissan joint venture,

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

The Mid 70's Challengers were made by Mitsu ( Strange nobody wants to talk about those but they run down the American built Chargers )
Chrysler I believe still owns 49% of Mitsu stock . Ford owns Mazda, Jaguar, and I think Saab. So next time you think how great Mazdas are, you are just buying a Ford. Seems like if you look deep enough you still find the American Big 3 running the show.Take that you Rice Lovers !

Who owns Chrysler?   I remember that it was sort of messed up when Jaguars started being built by Ford, wonder how much of the jags were ford, the engines?  the styling still looked influenced by jaguar designers, but those new more common convertable expensive models, they remind me more of a sebring/convertable camaro thing, sort of cheaper looking

My new Caliber has a Jatco CVT trans. Jatco makes the CVT for Nissan. I think the process of a Chrysler Nissan partnership has already begun. Sounds like it would benefit both company's. I would go for a mini Mope with Nissan reliability.  :yesnod:
1972 Charger Topper Special, 360ci, 46RH OD trans, 8 3/4 sure grip with 3.91 gear, 14.93@92 mph.
1973 Charger Rallye, 4 speed, muscle rat. Whatever engine right now?

Looks pretty confirmed to me-

Nissan-built Suzuki pickup confirmed

Shortcut to:

Nissan is all about collaboration with its competitors, as evident by the
rumor today that it could enter into an agreement with Chrysler to
co-develop cars, trucks and engines. Japan's third largest automaker
partnered up with Suzuki in 2006, and as Mike Levine from Pickuptruck.com
figured out, one big collaboration that has resulted is a new mid-size
Suzuki pickup that will be based off of Nissan's Frontier platform and be
built by Nissan at its Smyrna, Tennessee plant. Both automakers have now
officially confirmed that they're working on the truck together, and the
only thing left to wonder is when it will debut and what it will be called.
Mike Levine again provided us with an educated guess that the truck will
show up at the Chicago Auto Show, and based on recent trademark filings by
Suzuki, will be called the Equator. We feel compelled to reiterate our
initial concern that entering the mid-size truck market is not the best way
for Suzuki to continue increasing its sales in North America, as the segment
is shrinking at fast pace. Isn't there a small three-door hatch you'd rather
sell in the U.S., Suzuki?

I use to have a little black laser with that same motor in it. Cool little car but the turbo in that thing was a real B_tch to get to and had some problems. Oter than that it was a pretty nice little car.

I will never by a Chrysler-san. Just like a lot of people said they would never buy a German Mopar. In fact , I would rather have the Germans back than buy a Mopar Ricer .

it sounds like nissan would benefit the most.. the titan is ass ugly. the ram is a best seller. why would chrysler want more competition for the ram. and chrysler can invent a smaller car than the caliber if they want to. as of right now they are not.. but geez that's not hard.. german DC was nothing but "mercedes engineering and reliability".. PUHLEEEZE. chrysler is just fine without nissan to teach them how to sell a small jap size car in the american market. gimme a break.

Jaguar has actually stayed pretty independent. The Jaguar S-Type, XJ's and XK's are still Jaguar platforms, the only one that shares a platform is the X-Type which shares its structure with the Ford Mondeo. The engines in the S-Types (with exception of the 2.7d, which I believe was a production effort of various manufacturer's), XJ's and XK's are from origin Jaguar engines. The X-Type only has Ford sngines I believe. The bad habbit of Ford is though that they put their cheap keys, switches and buttons on everything they produce from Ford to Aston Martin they all have the same wiper switches, etc. That is a dead give away.

The 2009 Minivan that is built for the North American market by Chrysler for VW is to be called RouTan according to a source from the popular VW Enthusiast site forums.VWvortex, he posted that this information is readily available in th VW Dealer Network computer system.

Where the name RouTan come from is a mystery to us here at The VW Gazette, whether it plays on Touran or maybe its a combo of Route and Sedan (Minivan) or maybe its named after Routan Creek in California we just don't know.

Routan if that is indeed the final name of the Chrysler-VW Product will be revealed at the Chicago Auto Show in early February.
