1967 charger 383

i found a 383BB charger with a 727torqueflite and 8 3/4 rear limited slip...Now the car has rust in back right 1/4 and front right fender behind wheel, bubbling under vinal top and driver seat is torn, other than that great shape car...owners asking 6500 and it is numbers matching, now this would end up being a daily driver and im a college student so it wouldn't be driven to ofter next fall on, but i was wondering on your guys input

take it from another college student right now. Dont buy it and plan on working on it unless you have another charger to drive in the mean time.

What I mean is, if you plan on tearing it down and rebuilding it, then dont bother unless you have another really fun car right now in which case put the money into that. Its way too expensive to restore a mopar AND pay for college at the same time. Of course if you have the $$ then I would say go for it, but You should look at paying off loans before building the charger. There are just way too many expenses.

My situation right now is my charger is in the garage, the 360 motor is in a million pieces in the basement (connects to garage) The fenders are off, the bumpers are off, The transmission is the only thing ready to go into the car, I started body work, and ill be LUCKY if i get it to a state where I can drive it by the time I graduate (2010-hopeuflly). I dont have as much time to work on it as I would like, I thought I was going to, but I dont have as much as I thought. I have to work to get money to pay for loans, to pay for bills, and THEN work to get money for the charger, and by the time I work all that time, on top of the school work I dont have any time left.

Dont just look at the cost of the car as the determining factor, make sure you have the time/money for the project.

the motor and trans were recentlly torn down and refreshed <100 miles ago and the rear just needs alittle fixing, but i have a 73 project for my dad and i and im prob not doing a 100% show car until after college, its gonna just be a DD, slash fun weekend car

post up some pics if possible that way we can give you a better i dea of if the car is worth it, as long as its driveable wnad wont need much work, id say got for it however, i do agree  with alfanta, being in college and trying to build a car is tough, money gets tight, so be sure you look this thing over very closely to make certain you're not getting a huge project car.  :Twocents:

Right now im just overwhelmed with the whole thing on top of college. trying to juggle life, classes, work, and charger is a lot of work, if I could do it all over again, I still would have bought the charger, but it would be sitting at my parents house with a tarp over it until I graduate.

First off, what alfanta said, mechanicals first and know that restoration while in college is not an easy undertaking.  As a 67 vinyl top owner, let me say that if your plans are to daily drive it now and restore it when you're done college, know that however bad you think it is under that top now, it is actually much worse and will continue to worsen.  A big thing to watch for with 1st gens, is to make sure all of the electrical oddities are working.  Guages, dash lighting, and headlight motors.  Another thing to be aware of is the overall condition of the exterior trim.  They are beginning to repop a lot of it now but it isn't cheap.
As a somewhat irrelevant aside, there are no numbers matching 67's since they didn't start punching numbers in the blocks and transmissions at that time.  It may be the original engine but there is no way to know for certain.  No big deal in this case though.
