Do you guys seriously think a 1982 T/A would work as KITT nowadays?  In a fresh-slate remake of the series thats not a continuation of the old show? 

You're crazy. 
A few thousand T/A lovers & hardcore fans of the old TV show would absolutely love it.  And the other 30 million viewers would laugh their asses off at the idea of an '80s mullet-mobile Firebird being portrayed like that.   After all the buildup of what the car is supposed to be, the first sight of the car would literally be a punchline. 


I like the old car too, but you can't portray a high-tech/futuristic car as ANYTHING  from 1982 nowadays.  Period.

Totally double gay!! OMG and those wheel are just as bad AND that spoiler on the front doesn't help either!! I think they did a GREAT job f$%*ing up that mustang! and yup NO KITT in my eyes!! the first one was REAL sleek and had great body lines and this one just looks like a major POS!! WOW how could ford do that to a mustang???

Hollywood does not like stick shifted cars at all.  It's not just Knight Rider and it's not just the wimpy actors. 

Most of the stunt-driver community would rather have an automatic any day of the week for consistency reasons.  Having a car that's inconsistent from one pass to the next (and capable of missing a shift) stands to get them into a lot of danger & trouble.  If they really need another 1/4 of a second of acceleration so bad for some reason, they'll just nitrous the car and really cover that base.

In the old Dukes TV series they used to literally yank the 4spds out of manual-built Chargers and install 727s into them. 


Same with that "Viper" TV show in the 1990s.  They had some of those Vipers retrofitted with 360/727 crate motors just to get rid of the manual trannys.

Corey Eubanks was telling me a story about driving a four speed Charger in one stunt because that was all they had at the time. Apparently it broke in the middle of the stunt and almost killed him. After that he wouldn't drive another one.

I haven't heard that one.  Did he say which stunt it was? 


They really didn't like stick-shifted GLs at all if they could help it.  Rich S. has said there were hardly ever any stick-shifted cars onscreen in the whole series.  He told me one time that had a big pile of yanked 4spd trannys stacked almost up to the ceiling of the shop at one point.  They used to convert the 4spd cars to automatics with a typical aftermarket cable-operated shifter.

I agree, use the '02 Trans Am, any trans am, even an updated and modernized 74 would be one thousand times better than making kitt into a mustang, who the heck was in charge of making this movie?  are they friggin total idiots?

Maybe not an 82 Trans Am, but at least a 2002 WS6 car.  I used to watch the show all the time, I won't bother going to see it.  A Mustang is not KITT.
