Got a call from my brother last night. Someone he works with is selling his Grandma's car from her estate. Not a car guy, doesn't want it. He is looking to get 2K but it is not firm. I know it's a Ford, but I have no idea as to what it's worth. Solid body, 60K miles, 289, auto console, garage kept all it's life. Can I flip it and make a few?

I would buy it for 2K. I think there is some room to make cash..... :Twocents:

Looks like its been stored in the garage a long time. I would say if it cleans up nice $2K-$2,500 would be the flipping price so you may want to talk him down a bit.

Looks like that car is a '68 Ford Torino GT with the formal roof option....too bad it's not a fastback....should be a 302 cid 2v ...not a 289 ...looks to have very decent sheetmetal on the car and in reasonably good original condition.....should clean well and hopefully runs good...looks to be sitting for some time...a little brake work and some clean up...should be good to go....value....hmmm hard to say...check eBay completed listings??? ......I've flipped a few AMC's recently with some success...no mopar's left to buy....gotta move on to the dark side..lol...here's a link with some good info....good luck with your decision....

I just sold a 68 torino GT over the summer.  It had a 302 and it ran.  The interior was flawless, but the body looked like crap.  It only sold for 550 bucks.  I was hoping for at least 2 grand.  The only way you can get 2 grand for it is to part it out.
Nice car and good luck

look again at the grille and the bucket seats WITHOUT headrests.  It's a 68!

Rear marker lights and taillights are also 68 style.  A close friend of mine has a stupid fast 69 Fairlane, I've seen the tallights.  :blush2:

I sold one very similar to this - no vinyl top and column shifter-- in about the same condition for 2500 a few weeks back. I just cleaned it up, put some el-cheapo seat cover on the front seat and that was it. Its not a car most guys would restore, kinda common, but the guy that bought it wanted it so he could have something he could work on himself and take to the local cruise nights around here. As a matter of fact I had a few guys that wanted it. I paid 1200 and sold it 2 weeks later at a cruise-in. If you can get it for around what I paid I'm sure you can flip it for some decent cash. Now all of this goes with the fact that it runs, drives and stops good. good luck.

Offer 1200 then sell for 2500... some good elbow grease should net yuo a cool 1000-1200 bucks.  :2thumbs:

Guy three doors down had a CHERRY low Mi. red/black '68 Torino GT 351 C.I., that car was allways garaged and looked showroom fresh, i let him know if he ever wanted to sell it i was anxious to deal... Anyhow, he sold it cheap just a few years ago to a H.S. kid who wrapped it around a tree two weeks later...  :shruggy:

I would seriously consider doing some clean-up and detail work before listing it for sale.  A few days of detailing can really make this car pop.  Eye appeal is everything!  Good luck with it.  :2thumbs:

Fords don't fetch too much cash so unless you can get it for less than $1,500 I would pass.   I have been trying to sell this 68 Fairlane 500 fastback for 6 months now with no luck.  It has a 289 with 62,000 actual miles on it and I have been asking $4,300.

How have you been trying to sell it? local or Ebay/Craigs list?

That's a nice car BTW...I don't see the problem. Maybe I'm used to Mopar prices..... :brickwall:

I have had it on craigslist and parked out on a the highway that runs through town.  There is some rust on it that doesn't show in the pics but I thought for that price the car would have sold right away.  I am not going to sell it for anything less than $4,000.

sure looks like fun, all that needs is some glasspacks and a air freshener hanging from the rear view,.. the kids around here would snap it up..

Seems like the only Fords that bring any money are the fastback mustangs. I had a friend that had a really clean 1966 289 red Fairlane which is one of my favorites Fords for sale. He was asking $4500 had the car for sale for 6 months. Listed in all of the local autotraders and newspapers no luck. I was surprised none of the Ford guys would pay that amount . He ended up doing a trade broke even with the car.
Be careful with Fords, market really soft.

Hey ramit, I'll give you 3995.00 for it, JK, but I think your right because there is a very similar one for sale locally, sounds about the same condition for 3500.00 OBO and it still hasn't sold yet. My brother offered him 3 for it, said no but it was the highest offer he's had so far, go figure but right now the market is really wide open for just about any older car.

Ok....you got a deal I just found five bucks in my pocket that I didn't know I had so that makes an even $4,000. :icon_smile_big:
