Up here in southern Wisconsin a hour north of Milwaukee where I live (under winter storm warning), according to the news today, were supposed to get about 5-6 inches of snow. But from like Milwaukee south, there getting sleet and rain right now, but I guess it is going to change to ice a bit later. There saying like a half inch of ice today. All the area schools are closed today too. Now I'm willing to bet since I kicked my son's ass in Madden Football last night by 50 points, :D  I'm sure he is going to want revenge today :P

I saw this picture on the web, looks cool regardless.

So far today, it hasn't been to bad.  Roads are pretty clear so far here in Des Moines.  The side streets suck but the mains are decent with some slippery spots here and there.

Here in Davenport, Iowa we currently have a 1/4" of ice and it's pretty similar to what we got a week ago.   It's been raining pretty heavy since early this morning.   My neighbor just lost a tree in his backyard.  We're suppose to get 3/4" - 1" of ice followed by an inch of snow.   Hopefully the River Birch trees I planted this summer will make it OK.   During the last ice storm they bent over, but straightened up again once the ice melted.  I'll keep my fingers crossed that it will happen again.

Same here, but I need to do revision work on my disseration anyway (which means work from home  :brickwall:).  It is now lightly raining and finally got above freezing, but the side roads are still slick and will refreeze this evening.  I tried to get the daily driver out yesterday but no luck (black ice four inches thick around wheels + rear wheel drive, non-posi camaro = going nowhere for awhile).  At least I got the two inches of ice off the windows.  I think that there is a Snickers commerical tied in there somewhere  :eyes:........

We're getting smoked here in Kansas. Woke to a crack and the big maple in the front took a dump. Missed the house and the 2007 Dodge.  If my neighbors tree gives out we are screwed as my power line is under it. Looks like the old 1947 will be getting used when it drives up. If you dont see these pictures that means I am without power now and the server is down.

And its not over yet and could have been worse!

More pictures.........surprisingly the roads arent that slick but the wind is picking up! Thats bad!

This pole is taking a heck of a side load from the alley pole. Not a good thing!

My power line........thru my neighbors tree. It keeps cracking and dropping stuff but so far we still have juice.

The predictions for Monday were much worse than the actual outcome around here.  They had said 1/2" or more of ice, and we got less than 1/4", and very little stuck around on the roads.  Several schools called off based on the forecast alone - the kids were happy though...

Today (Tuesday morning), however, it was 48 degrees at 6:30am.  That's Missouri weather for you though.   The old addage about "if you don't like the weather, give it 15 minutes - it'll change" HAD to have been coined by a Missourian.   :brickwall:

We're all fine and the kids are back in school, but we might get some more freezing stuff tonight.  Who knows.  It's been 15 minutes, so we're due.

Its getting worse here tonight. Temp is at 28 now and it started raining but has changed to snow. I still have power but dont know how. Next door's lines are laying in the backyard now. The tree has cleaned itself all around my power line and I am still getting lucky. I hope it holds. Stuff is broke and fallen all over town. Roads closed because of tree's. Had to take a different way home due to tree's.  The railroad has had a complete meltdown. All our signals and crossing gates at roads are down for about a 75 mile stretch. Its taking trains hours to cover 45 minutes normally. They have to stop at each crossing or signal and proceed according to rules. We did what we could and went home early.

Oklahoma has the worst power outage in state history. Over 650,000 are out of electricity. That beats the old record by 500,000.  :o

These pics. bring back memories like it was just yesterday. We went through this back in 91'. Rochester, NY was one low bowing icicle after another. Everything was shut down. They called a state of emergency, so that meant nobody was to be on the road unless they HAD to be.   I had a generator and a chain saw. Much of my family was without power and had some basement flooding going on. It took me about 3 hours to go 8 miles out to my in-laws house to get them powered up. Had to cut a path through downed trees and on one road myself and someone that lived on that particular road cleared about 6 or 7 trees just to get to the end of the road and be turned back due to a downed live power wire.

Pumped over 3 feet of water out of my inlays house and provided them with some heat, then pulled the plug and headed to VegasMikes house to get his family some heat. (He was SpencerportMike back then)..  :smilielol:

It started raining here last night around midnight and didn't quit until 4:00 p.m.    Lots of ice but not as bad as some of the pictures above.   My neighbor had a tree go down in his backyard, but so far my young birch trees are bent over, but not broken.   We lost power for 1 1/2 hours this afternoon, and my mother lost power for 4 - 5 hours in another part of town.   The power loss prompted me to rewire my furnace so that I can run it from the portable generator I bought a year and a half ago.   Fired up the generator tonight just to be sure it's ready, if needed.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be neither.  My two trees held up really well.  We did get about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice then about 1/2 to 1" of snow on top.   Cleared the driveway the snow blower after work, wasn't that bad until I got to the street, which had melted a bit.

This morning kind of sucked though, they plowed our street last night and put a huge mess up in front of the driveway.  The roads we still pretty slick, I about lost it after dropping my daughter off at daycare.  Hit some black ice, hopefully the roads will clear up some more today...

Bandit72

kinda weird everywhere around humboldt kansas got the ice, we just got very cold rain....i think it's all the concrete dust in the air around here....keeps the shit from freezing or something...

We just got our power back on after 4 days.   It's been a bitch trying to pack in the dark and cold for our move this weekend to Dallas.  Little free advice; if you don't have a generator get one!  I think I love my generator more than my charger right now.
