i personally wish mine was a sticker instead of a big metal plaque that reads "CROSSTOWN MOTORS". the plate is all pitted and the holes in the decklid have started nice rust spots.

just more wok that needs doing now...

Still got the original metal tag from the local dealer from back in the day...no pitting....likely fill the holes and loose the emblem when it comes for this car's first real repaint...

hmmm  its the original selling dealer ..........  i would keep it on there if it were me :yesnod: , but does not look  as good as a metal  badge though , as a sticker looks a bit too modern if you know what i mean , but still leave it on there  :yesnod:
thought the dealers only used metal badges though :scratchchin:

Pretty much an echo here of the ones that say keep it.  I had the original onmy 68 Road Runner and I always liked it there.  As for the advertising, I don't think that many people will really go to Barry Dodge looking for a 68 Charger, wait, strike that, they probably will.  But who cares.

I have a Mr. Norm plate surround on the back of my car and it's not a Mr. Norm car.  :shruggy:

First off,  that is origianl paint, come on, you kidding me?  That car is geogeous either way. :drool5:  More pictures please., and a little history.  2) I would say bye bye to it as it just takes away from the original beauty of the car, if Dodge at the plant added it, maybe, some dealer?  Nope.  3) You could stick a can opener on the back of that trunk and I would be so mezmorized by the overall beauty that I wouldn't notice it anyway, or care.  4) I'm a 69 lover , but because of beautiful cars like your 68, they are digging into my heart more and more.  SWeeeet :yesnod:  Oh, last thing.  We find out you ever repaint that car, :2guns:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

id like to find the Universal Motors of honolulu hi.  decal or badge that would have been on my runner .

I would never remove an original dealer badge from a survivor. The whole point of a survivor is to see how it left the dealer (not the factory). The dealer badges, warranty cars, etc are all pieces of the original car. I have both tags for my cars, and one day I will put the badge back on the Charger new paint or not. The whole advertising for the dealer thing is kooky. These cars are almost 40 years old, who is going to actually see your badge and say "Oh look honey, he bought his car at so an so, maybe we should drive across country and buy a new Caravan from that place...if it still exists". Come on.  ::)

Sweet car BTW. That paint looks just as new as the repro sticker you put on it.  :scratchchin: :icon_smile_wink:

I know one thing...my 71 will have one on it's trunklid as soon as the paint is dry..... :icon_smile_big:

It's too bad you replaced the original with a new one- I would have left the original there, even if it was a little shabby, just because the car is an original paint survivor. The repro'd one does stick out and look too new- but snce it's there now, I'd probably just leave it. Mine still has it's original dealer emblem on the bumper as well.

I like seeing old stickers on cars.  I was cruising around for a while with this one on the car.   :D

I say leave it or try to get another produced that isn't so white (perhaps a flat balck one would be best).  I think it is neat to see the dealers name, even more so if that delaer is no longer around and someone remembers hey, back in 68, 72,79,83 or whenever I bought a car from that place.
Their was a Dodge dealership that was at theairport for the longest time and it finally went out.  At the local crusie someone still had a sticker (repo or not?) and man the stories taht started flying were crazy.
So that little sticker could actually help your car become the center of a conversion (like it needs help).

Yeah, I know - that's part of the fun.  Because I'm clearly not old enough to have been around for it.  I did vote for him in kindergarten class in '72.

In 1968 most, if not all, of the dealer nameplates were made of chrome plated, die cast, zinc.  They were usually held on with two pins through holes drilled in the trunk lid and speed clips.  Sometimes they were painted, or painted and wiped to leave colored edges and chrome faces.  In the seventies, as tape technology got better they were applied with two sided tape.  Later they were made of injected plastic and roller coated with a top color, usually gold, silver or white.

The press on decal type did not come around for a while after that.  I'm not sure when because I got out of the manufacturing side of it by then.  But we made a lot of them for dealers all over the country.

We also made many of the emblems for car manufacturers including Chrysler Corp.  One of the big ones we made were the sail panel arrows on the first Generation Chargers.  I still have the original paint masks for them.  We also made the 426hemi hood emblems for the e bodies and some of the other engine and body callouts as well as many R/T badges.  I remember the original Superbee emblems had a fifty percent  loss rate, presumably due to employee theft, before reaching the car body on the line.

The last new cars I've bought I've told the dealer I want a penny a mile to advertise for them or they can leave it off.  None have offerred to pay for use of my deck lid space.

WOW, Nice car. IMO if the factory did not put it there, neither should the dealer...After all, why should the middle man get credit.?
I also think ALL Dealers are crooks. :Twocents:
I am a car dealer, and what the hell does a sticker have to do with us being "crooks"? I think that you should think before you type my friend

by the way i am not that far from brockport as the crow flies and i think its cool to have an original dealer sticker or emblem on the car, thats how they were delivered back then,i keep some old plate frames around thinking of refurbishing them to put on mine someday :2thumbs:

question: do you still have the original one?.. without seeing it it's hard to say, but off the top i'd say use the original no matter what the shape,.. (stick on i hope) the decal you have on there now looks o.k. but looks too new. but all things being equal i'd say leave it..
like to see alot more pics of your car BTW even if it is only a '68...   :popcrn:

MOPARHOUND!

The 69 318 Charger purchased from the original owner has it's original paint on the trunk lid, and the metal Olsen Dodge, Omaha, Nebraska emblem still attached.  I'm keeping it.  Strongly considering removing the faded AAA sticker though, had about 10 of them plastered on the car, inside and out.

I did remove the CB antennae, and the green alien head thingie ( ) from the radio antennae.

Would like to remove the trailer hitch, and the antiquated mobile phone antennae eventually.

Wow, I'm surprised at all of the posts on this. A little history on the repo sticker. A good friend of mine father, owned the dealership. He also worked there back in the late 60's and got to order a new car a couple of time a year to drive. He said that he usually drove 340 Darts because
his father would not let him drive any big block cars for fear that he might wreck them. He has lots of good stories to tell of those days and remembers most of the small handfull of R/T's and GTS cars that they sold. He still recalls when my 68 Charger was delivered to the new owner.

My friend had a falling out with his father one day in the late 70's and quit. His father died around 1989 and shortly later the dealership was sold but the name remained unchanged. About 15 ys ago my friend found an original dealer sticker in the back of his tool box. It was one of their original 60's era one because around 1970 the dealer added Plymouth cars and their sticker was changed to Dodge/Plymouth. He was able to make about 6 reproductions from the original and when I bought the Charger last year he offered me one.

One thing I should mention is that the dealer kept all the records on all the new cars they sold. So I have nice file of the dealer paper work of when the car was order. Here is a pic of the original order sheet written by his father John Barry. Note the date is wrong in the upper corner it says 12-16-68 instead of 12-16-67 , he said that his father trid to get the buyer to go for Sur-grip but the guy was too cheap. Also  his father would try to talk buyers into deleating the stripes "as they only lead to tickets" he would say. As you can see there are no stripes on my 68.

For those those who asked, the paint that you see in the pictures is original. There has been some repaint done in a few areas but most is untouched.
