Dealer's name on the back of your Charger...

I'm just trying to get a opinion.  What do you guys think of having the dealer's name on the back of your car.  A little background here
on my 68 R/T. It is a unrestored survivor that came from the dealer that is seen "advertised" on the back of the trunk lid. The sticker is not the
original one. It is a reproduction of what the original one would have look like. I stuck it on the car last summer thinking that it would be a nice addition to the car. Well anyway, I have had a few people tell me that I should have never put it on the car and that I should remove it because
it make the car look cheesy. :eek2: I know most people can't stand having a dealer's name on their car, but I thought in this case it would be different. What do you guys think?
Should I keep it or remove it??

I guess I have never really felt like I have wanted to advertise for a dealer cuz I was never there to make friends... just buy a car. So I like to have them left off. But, hey its not my ride, its yours and if you like it then thats good enough for me.

Besides, its certainly not the worst looking dealer sticker out there. Man some of the ones I have seen dealers use are SO FRIGGIN CHEAP and crappy looking.  :Twocents: And they go and stick it on a nice new $$$$ vehicle.

:drool5: If the rest of that unrestored car looks as good as its left cheek, you have one fine looking car there. Is it still living near Rochester NY?

I had a Charger trunk lid once that had the old school metal dealership name plate attached to the drivers side. I am surprised we don't see more survivors with them or atleast the remains.

If it had been the original one to the car there is no way I would even think of removing it. I guess the only problem that I
had after putting it on was that It seem to stand out a little too much. It probably would look better if the letters
were black or if I could have aged it a little so it would look like it was 39 years old and not so brand new.

I still have the holes on my trunklid from the original metal name plate...does that count :icon_smile_big:

Yes I still live just outside of Rochester. I'm on the East side and the dealer that sold the car new is about 15 miles West of Rochester. Barry Doge is still in operating at the same location in Brockport, NY. under the same name since 1964. Not the same owners though. The Barry family sold the dealership back around 1990.

man you are asking for opinions. i'm not much of a sticker man myself.. or dealer advertising either.. i personally would squash that dealer tag and the AAA sticker. that car is just too clean and gorgeous to have that kind of stuff to detract from it. very sweet car by the way!

It depends if you are for orginality as sold or before it got to the dealership.  I personally like the dealers badges made in metal, but am not to fond of the stickers (as they tend to crack and look bad over time)........

  KEEP IT !

My formerly owned , survivor 73 rallye 340 , has the dealers sticker on it still, and it looked awesome , i think it never got hit by the sun since the back of the decklid was a little concave. I met up with the dealer owners and they gave me a replacement but it wasn't as nice as the one on the car.
It also has an old Mopar performance sticker that a service tech put on the back bumper.

That kind of stuff can't be replaced , especially on a survivor.
And since you live a 1/2 hour from the original dealership - heck yeah , you gotta keep it.

Any car can get a brand new paint job..... it's not like you are  advertising the dealership, thats like saying you are advertising goodyear tires if you have radial GT tires on your rig.
I have probably seen in person or in pictures what seems like 100 red 68 chargers, I'd bet no more than 3 still had the dealer placard .

When I first got the car I removed the cheap looking steering wheel cover that the original owner had put on and what look like dealer installed door edge guards.
I also removed some of the deteriorating oil change stickers in the door jambs and the mini AAA stickers that were on the dash board. I was also going to remove
the AAA sticker on the rear bumper but never got around to it. I then after awhile decided to leave it because it is an old vintage one. :shruggy: The paint on the car looks great in the photos but close up it has it's share of flaws. The camera just hides them all.

Yea, but that's original paint correct? That's character to say the least and there isn't any way to duplicate that kind of detail in a "restoration". Its like a Smithsonian restoration - they just clean it up and leave it as it is.

I don't like it.....sorry.  If it was original to the car, that would be another story.  But since you like it, let it roll  :2thumbs:

I never liked dealer stickers much, but if I had gotten a car that still had one that survived all these years I'd probably leave it alone. You're right though, the new sticker on your survivor stands out too much & looks a little out of place. I wonder if there's a way of yellowing the white letters some? I have a dealer sticker on my '71 Barracuda, but it probably wouldn't show up in a photo because of how faded it is. Some NYC dealership, a place called "Washington Heights Motors" I think. It has some kind of reflective appearance & a small area of it is missing, but it doesn't stand out.

I've still got my metal dealership tag from my 71  Garland Dodge down in Texas. I need to get some stick'm and put it on my new trunk lid. It was screwed into the old lid but I had to replace. Dont want to drill holes in the new lid but some stick'm should take care of it.

You should do what you want to do. I don't like it, but that shouldn't make any difference to you unless you're trying to get me to buy your car.

WOW, Nice car. IMO if the factory did not put it there, neither should the dealer...After all, why should the middle man get credit.?

The only thing I can say is that I think it's cool when it's the actual sticker put on by the dealership. I don't know if I would put a reproduction dealer sticker on mine, but I would love to know where mine came from. I know next to nothing about the history on my car.

I'm pretty much against providing dealerships with free advertising on my cars. Usually the first thing I do when I buy a car is rip the dealer license plate frame off. But I wouldn't do that with an original frame if I still had it.
