Anyone install repro hood signal light lenses on their original housings? How?

I just received my new lenses for my hood mounted turn signal indicators in the mail today. My original housings are in good shape, so I only got the lenses and gaskets. Now I have come to the painful realization that I have no idea how to put the lenses on the housings without breaking anything. I know most guys just buy the complete assemblies, but I didn't need everything. I figure someone on this board has been in the same boat at one time. Thanks!

Why would you have to break something?
What is wrong with your original housings which would cause you to break something?

Once you remove the assemblies from the hood, replacing the lenses is fairly simple.

It would have been fairly simple if the lenses would have fit correctly, but I had to make a couple of modifications to them. If I would have tried to snap them in place as is, they probably would have broken at the corners, but I got them on. Thanks.

I remember having to file the edges of the lenses slightly when I installed the new ones on my '68 as well. They were the repros from Charger Specialties.

I did the same on mine

The ones I got didn't fit correctly because the 4 holes in the corners of the lense that are supposed to fit on the pegs on the housing were a little too close together. The points of the tapered pegs would just barely fit into the holes, and wouldn't go down any farther. If I would have tried to force it on, I'm sure it would have broken. I drilled the holes in the lenses a little larger and cut a groove in the ends of them with a soldering iron. One of them snapped together perfectly, and the other has a little chip on one corner where I should have drilled the hole a little bigger, but it won't show when it's installed in the car, so I'm happy it worked.
