Mine is up there ('68/383/2bbl/4spd) at one of 74 but the 6 cyl cars are probably more rare. But then rare doesn't always equate to desirable.

Here we go. As listed in the white books it is a 3 way tie as there were only 1 each of the cars listed below. Yes if we start adding on opitions something many be added to the list but till production numbers are found for opitions these are the bad boys to find.

68 Charger 225 6cyl 3 spd manual
70 Charger 500 SE 225 6cyl
70 Charger 500 426 w/2 4bbl carbs

I had never heard of that Hemi 500 in 70.  Is that car accounted for?

ph23vo

the 70 hemi 500 is accounted for but has absolutely nothing to back up its claim to fame IMHO...at least nothing from chrysler factory anyway.. dan

FastbackJon

I have a '66 Charger with a VIN saying it was built in St. Louis, whereas all '66 Chargers were supposed to have been built at Lynch Road.

The white book is wrong on the 68 Charger /6 3spd manual being one of one, since I have saw one in 1999 that was not included in the total when the info was published.  (It was up in SD right next to a 69 hemi charger in a mopar collection.)  There is probably ten or so of them that I have heard about over the past decade.  The 70 Hemi 500 is owned by Howie in NJ and has a special claim to fame as it is the first production 70 Charger built. (He also owns the second 70 Charger built, as well as the first two 70 challengers and I think the first 70 cuda).  My vote is with the 70 Charger 500 SE /6 as it is a legit 1 of 1 car, even though it is currently MIA........

Count me in for both cars.  They might not be worth as much as RTs, but they can be more intertaining to take to car shows.  Call me sick in the head, but I like to watch the spectators reactions to the oddball Chargers........

So what's the general concensus among the 70 fans, is the 70 Hemi 500 legit?

As I understand it (and one of the '70 guys can correct me if need be) the 426 Hemi '70 500 was a promotional anomaly that was not really considered a production car. In a sense it was more of a concept car like that '68 with the '69 500 nose.

1971 Hemi 4-spd  "Charger" Super Bee only 9 made. And of the (9), only one known to have a SUNROOF.

as far as the 72 440 6pk cars go, what about if you had the ramcharger hood N96 option, how many then?

is there a truly accurate # as far as 72 440 6pk cars? the white book (4th edition) i have is dated feb 98, surely many of the #`s in it are now known to be inaccurate. it shows 2  1972 440 6pk chargers known to exist, which should not be confused with actual total made.
any 72 440 6pk is super rare, one with a N96 would be incredible.

RD

twilt, are not the 1 of the 2 72 rallye N96 coded chargers that are known to exist a 440 6 pk?  We ran this mystery on the old board and some members claimed to know the person who owns them and one member actually did own one of th e N96 option cars.

RD,  i really dont know anything about the one N96  6 pk car. i must not have read or participated in that post.  i recall a couple of posts about the 72 6pk cars. seemed to me that there were different #`s being thrown around by different people.

69_500

I had always thought that there was 3 HEMI Charger RT/SE's with a power sunroof. I know of 2, but was always informed that there was a third one out there somewhere.

bsakal

My buddy has a '68 slant six automatic, I think one of 900 something. '69 slant sixes are even more rare.

69 4speed with a sunroof, 1 of 1. In my garage. ::)

Bob, not that I doubt you, but at the Atlantic Nats this year I over heard a couple message board guys talking to Galen, and they mentioned that "badbob" says he has a 1 of 1 '69 Charger. I tell no lie, Galen said to them that he has a "few others on file, so it's No 1 of 1". That's what I actually witnessed. I know the 2 guys that frequent the boards, so it's legit. This also shows that Galen does check the Mopar sites.

69_500

I do believe that there was tale of a 69 Charger R/T with a power sunroof that was a 4 speed over in Illinois. However I haven't ever seen the car personally.

As for me, I still say a Q5 1969 Charger 500 is a true rare breed car. My dad used to own 1 of them, and as far I know there was only 2 ever made.

Badbob

Galen is the sourse of my information, but more could have turned up in the 2 years since I talked to him. Not that I really care, it was a freebie.
