Quick question for the pros here...I have to replace the dash wiring harness and the "start charging harness" (from what someone tells me)? I want to get the wiring harness from Year 1 with 20% discount but am not sure if this is the right item?? Universal Muscle Car Wiring Harness...

   Part #  WH61
Universal 18 circuit muscle car wiring harness.
$551.00

Was not totally sure...anyone who has ordered the part for a 68' clue me in.
Thanks again guys... :2thumbs:

Without looking at the catalogue I'm thinking you've got the wrong part number there.  The wire harness you're looking for would be specific to '68 Dodge B-Body and then you'll have to choose engine size etc.

The wiring harness section has all of the different harnesses within a few pages of each other.  They are made by a company called M&H.

Take another look or check the YO web site.

Even though it's more money, if it were mine, I wouldn't use a universal wiring harness.  The repro ones aren't cheap but they are so nicely done and easy to install that they're worth it in my opinion.  The 68 dash harness is part number HU269B from YO.  If by start/charge your shop means an engine harness, if it's a 383 or 440 it's part HU187X.

There are good and bad features to both. The original sets are awesome if you just want to plug and go, if you want the original look or aren't great at wiring but still a do-it-yourselfer. They also match the factory schematics so future problems are more easily solved. The down side to that harness is that it typically does not include wiring for factory options such as rear window defroster, rear speaker fader, etc. They are also more difficult to expand to include other extras like modern stereo systems, alarm systems, etc.

The generic, all-inclusive harnesses deal with the down sides listed above, plus they cost a lot less but they won't match your schematics, they take more time to install and they can get confusing real fast. In many cases, unless you are pretty good at electrical, you'll have to hire someone to install this harness and that could easily bridge the cost gap real quick.

I'm still on the fence as to which direction I'm going to go.

Okay thank you guys again...damn this is one helpful forum! I think I'm just gonna go with the original wiring harness and not the universal...I dont really care about keeping it all original but if the original wiring harness is easier then thats the way to go for me!

Back N Black

FYI,
I ordered a Dash wringing harness from Yo last week and they are on back order 6 to 8 weeks, but it winter time anyhow.
