70-500-SE-EXPORT

I bought a 70 500 charger SE in NC 2 years ago. It turns out it was a exported car. I cant understand where it could have been exported to or why it was in NC. It was also special ordered (Y14). It also was a Y11 "DOM PUBLIC" car. Whatever that means.. Export means it was brought off north america? It had red clay underneath the car. No rust. From what research I have done a 1970 charger 500 SE with A/C, 8 track and a 318 engine was very uncommon. Not to mention it was exported. It was also a very early production car (8-13).
Does anyone know where these export cars were usually sent and if all of them actually went overseas?

I have attached a copy of the build sheet. I also have fender tag.

Y09 does stand for an Export car, but that does not mean it actually left the US. The Y14 code is simply a customer ordered car, which would make sense since you also have the Y11 code, which is a Military Sales Order Code. Most likely that car was ordered by a soldier who lived in NC or Virginia or somewhere in a US stationed Army base or overseas at the time of purchase. I think they got a discount.  :patriot:

Do yourself a favor... www.1970chargerregistry.com and also send us a copy of your sheet, tag and pictures of the car.  :2thumbs:

I appreciate your help. I thought all export cars were exported. If it were not a export then wouldn't the build sheet say Y11 military sales order, Y14 customer order, Y05 built for USA specs? Not Y09 built for export? Maybe this is the way all military orders were sold in case the buyer took the car overseas? The car also has a plaque in door jamb that says "MADE IN USA"
I will register the car on  your site. But I know your not going to want to see the pictures because its no longer a 70. I converted it to a 1969 front end. The big chrome 70 bumper looks like it belongs on a chrysler new yorker. ;D

...typing a few keywords into the search box up there will yield way too much information...

:2thumbs: good move improving your '70

Any car ordered from overseas got the Y09 Export code. Y11 is Domestic Publications, which means military order. Chrysler had a Military Sales Program. If a serviceman overseas wanted to, he could order a car through the program and have it shipped to the dealership of his choice in the states for pick up on his return home.

Welcome to the site, Home sweet home. :icon_smile_big:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Cool find! I live in NC and wonder how far the production is off from your car to mine. My '70 500 SE came from the factory in F8 green with the black vinyl top, bucket seats (tan/saddle), woodgrain wheel, console,p/s,a/c,318 -automatic, wheel lip moldings as well.  There may have been many made like this but I havent seen another like it. I heard there were only 2887 charger 500 se's made in 70 IIRC. Sad part is that the car is to far gone to put back original after sitting for the last 24 years. Mine was made in 12-69. So Im gonna take the car modify it to my liking and enjoy it!

Am I the only guy that likes the '70's???  ;D :poke:

Good Lord, this man needs medical attention.  :icon_smile_wink: You should have saved yourself the trouble and just bought a Pontiac instead.  :D I love me some split grilles on a Pontiac. Send pics anyway, I don't mind seeing a '69 front.

Of course not....when you drive a 70 the only thing about a 69 you see is the grille in your rearview as you speed away.

   :scratchchin: well,...   :scope:

i'm gonna have to go with a 300.  :shruggy:

69_500

Which is why you should stick to the odd ball 69's and they have a Coronet grille, or no grille at all and just a metal nose cone.  :nana:

Oh wait those are those odd ball cars that aren't allowed to be discussed in this "general" section are they?

WOW your car is a exact copy of mine! That is very odd your in NC as well. I brought the car to RI from NC. As the build sheet says its F8 green, black top, CRXA black interior with leather buckets, woodgrain wheel, 8 track, console, a/c, p/s, 318, auto, wheel molding. The only other car I have seen like ours was on ebay a while ago. 69charger2002 was selling it. It was also a 70 500 SE 318 green.

Im do not hate the 70 front end. I just like the 68-69 more. I like the grille has anodized trim and a center divider and the fenders curve in the front. I should have bought a 69 instead, but I chose to convert to a 69 instead of finding another rust free car.

The 70 coronet, 70 charger, 71+ B body and C body chrysler have the same style massive bumpers I do not care for. The 70 charger also has a one piece grille that if one section is broke the entire grille is junk...bad design..  The 68-69 can be replaced in sections.  I also noticed the 70 was a few inches longer than a 68-69.. It looks weird..

Im sure the 70 front end was a lot less $$ to manufacture, single piece grille, no trim or vacuum system..

Thats pretty cool I must say. You have the only other one optioned similar to mine that I've noticed.  I just poke at people on 68-70 dispute -all in good fun though. The 68 and 69 has some advantages. First off as you mentioned you can replace the grille in sections which is nice, you can also buy new bumpers for the front as well -cheaper than you can rechrome a '70 front bumper for. Also There is nobody currently making hoods or valances for 1970 chargers which really  :brickwall: aggravates more than one of us. Basically '68/9 is much easier to get parts for and the '70 not so much. I may convert my front clip to 69 spec but the 70' front really grows on ya. I do need a new valance for sure. It's weird because in a way I like a 68/9 more and in another I like '70 s better. I guess Im just conflicted! I found my '70 in North Wilkesboro (about 20 minutes from me- behind a barn) He priced it for $600! so I paid him quickly before he changed his mind! Id like to see pics of yours when ya post them! I do favor the electric headlight doors over the vacumn setup though ! Rock on!  :2thumbs:

Hi mike. I bough the 70 and thought the only part needed to change to a 69 was the grille. I had no idea the fenders and hood were different. I took the entire front clip off. Completely rust free fenders, hood, and Perfect dent free valance. I sold the perfect complete grille/ bumper assembly for $250. I put it on ebay and a guy emailed me the first day and said he could pick it up for $250. I said OK. I sold him the valance and both rust free fenders and perfect hood.. ALL FOR $250 HE OFFERED!  I am such a idiot.. I gave them away, That guy stole the parts! Now I had to find rust free 69 parts. I paid $600 for a hood, $500 each fender, $250 bumper brackets, $1000 complete grille, $200 valance, $350 bumper. Well I spent alot more than the $500 I sold the parts for.. Live and learn!

Live and learn is right! I had sold a pair of '68 fenders and hood way to cheap when I though Id never find a '69 charger grille. Well wouldnt ya know that not even a month later I scored a '69 charger grille for really cheap! and then had no fenders or hood or valance. I felt like a dumb@**  :brickwall: So now I have a grille and 1 fender for a '68/69. Need a passenger fender, hood ,valance, and the part the headlights mount to. I really hate to spend the kinda money this stuff is bringing! I know how you feel! I bet the guy that bought the last pile of parts for his car from me was smilin' all way home. I felt good that I help a guy put his charger back on the road though  :2thumbs:
