Troy, no offense...and I'm not trying to stir the pot or ruffle feathers - but, it could be very possible that the car is only wearing vinyl graphics....for a joke or just to be outrageous for the moment. Regarding our criticisms, my gut feel is that if this car showed up at Corvette's at Carlisle, or any other Corvette show for that matter, those people would share the same opinion of it. Corvette people are funny like that - - - even willing to bet they are far worse than us Mopar people. Secondly, under all if those graphics, there's a very nice looking 1975 Vette Grand Sport tribute that has some good body work and mild customization.  The owner is stretching the envelope of his Grand Sport theme, and for the record, if this was posted on a Corvette board, the responses would probably be very similar as our Mopar guys. Come on, at some point, the owner knows this is an outrageous Corvette, and its a love it or leave it appearance. I respect your feelings as the board leader that , "if you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all" ....but you have to admit, when you go to the outrageous level, kind of like fashion, or hair style...you have to expect some criticism.

I think the point is being missed here . the thing about these threads is, if you hate it and cant find anything good about it why make a pinata thread about it? Ya gotta know that its just going to get bashed and make waves with other members etc. I understand completely that winter is starting to set in, shows are pretty much over for the year ,and everone needs to "shift into glide" so to speak but, lets not beat up on others to make ourselves feel better

Who cares if Corvette owners wouldn't like it? Would they say something to the owner of this car in person? Not likely. I chose this thread to state my opinion precisely because it is outrageous. Where should the line be drawn? Suppose it were a member's car (as has happened so many times in the past)? What do you think the owner's reaction would be? I know of at least five who have left the site because of pile-ons like this (usually stoked by members without a car and/or talent to do it themselves). That is unacceptable to me. Many of those cars were much less absurd than this one (and even this one appears to be easy to return to stock). There are a few still here who manage to put up with the asinine comments and I applaud them for it because they have a million times more character than the "haters".

Some people don't like General Lees, some don't like wheels larger than 15", some think stock wheels make a car look like an elephant on stilts, some don't like when the paint color is changed, some don't like custom interiors, and some can't imagine paying $4,000+ for a piece of NOS plastic. Those are all fine and valid opinions but it's really the owner's decision to do what makes them happy. I personally cringe when I see a roll cage and tubs in nearly any car - rare or not - and I doubt the sanity of anyone hunting down a set of NOS redline tires. However, I appreciate the effort and I'm glad someone has the guts/time/energy to do it other than me. If we all thought exactly the same then this would be an incredibly boring hobby. Constructive criticism is generally welcomed and encouraged by all but insults only serve to alienate and offend (not just the owners either!). I cannot imagine any scenario that makes it "ok" to insult another - even if they ask for opinions!

While I agree with you guys (Troy and Brian) that people here should not be running amuck with negative comments, I also feel there is a responsibility on the part of those toward which some comments are directed to take such things with a grain of salt. Maybe this isn't the time or place to confront this but people cannot be completely insulated from negativity, especially when they ask "what do you think" of this or that. There has to be a balance and people need to understand that not everyone is going to agree with what they think is cool, pretty, attractive, etc. I don't think this should give people license to pile on or get personal and nasty but if we are not allowed to express our honest opinions I think there's no point in having a "discussion" forum. Why have a discussion forum if you can't have a discussion? Discussions sometimes include dissention and that paradox reflects real life. Is it wrong that this forum sometimes reflects real life?

That said, it's much easier for people to be negative in this format than it is to be positive. When I used to write movie reviews I found it much more difficult to write reviews on movies I liked because it's harder to explain why you like something than it is to explain why you dislike something. That notion was backed up by my editor who said the same thing regarding his editorials. Sadly I think there is something innate in us that would rather tear something apart than build it up and I think that's one reason why threads with negativity here go on for three pages and the positive or neutral ones are lucky to get one or two responses before falling into obscurity.

I think a better way to go, rather than trying to focus on only writing positive things, is to be honest while obeying the golden rule. Voice your opinions but think about how it sounds if it were being said to you before you click the "post" button. During the past few months I've been trying hard to do this more and hopefully my efforts have not gone unnoticed. I've been involved in some very biting "discussions" in the past (one of which took place fairly recently with a vendor, mostly in the PM section) but I've toned it down greatly. My thing is I don't like arrogant know-it-alls or people who lie and deceive and if I see that here I tend to open fire. Ask Cody about that when he fibbed about his website early on. At any rate, I'm not perfect and no one is but we all have room for improvement so why not try to improve?

Well, I guess I got myself caught up in this frey, so I can't help myself to say (just like Bull) I wasn't always a model citizen either.....having said that:

with everything you said Bull especially: "I think a better way to go, rather than trying to focus on only writing positive things, is to be honest while obeying the golden rule".    I understood Troy's comments,  and the reasons for them (the negative pile-ons).  Somewhere in-between, there needs to be a happy medium. We all have our own individuality which makes each of our viewpoints unique...and we should respect that .  This place should be a forum where well-placed, well-thought, provocative comments can still be made - without being offensive or derogatory. 

In the end, we should remember that nobody wants this place to end up being sanitized like Moparts....but at the same time, Troy cannot allow it to become a free-for-all like the Howard Stern Show.

I personally dont think any of the comments were THAT bad, 4 forty didnt even ask "what do you think"but pretty obvious that people are gonna post their opinions (and why shouldnt they?) i agree with what TC, bull, and troy say first of all we shouldnt candy coat our opinions but also who are we to say if something sucks or not? I dont really like it myself and ive probably in the past been guilty with some of my comments.
These day's i will say something like ïts not what i would do but...maybe i have given in to the "dreaded" PC? if we all liked the same things the hobby would be boring no doubt.

Why is it that no one seems to appreciate another's hard work? It's a car. It's unique. It's an expression of the owner. Deal with it. I can just imagine what that guy thinks of anyone who is silly enough to restore a car back to factory stock condition.

Any of you car aficionados know the inspiration for this one? It should be obvious...

WOW that is different.. good for that guy for having the balls to be different.. don't get me wrong, i would not like to fling open my garage door every morning and have that car stare back at me, but if it makes him happy, then it's all good..
