Sixty-Six years ago today, "A date which will live in infamy", the Japanese raided Pearl Harbour on a Sunday morning. Remember this day and all the men and women that gave their lives.

I've been TDY to Hickham AFB.. It's amazing to still see the bullet holes in the buildings throughout the base. They never patched them up in the concrete... The new HQ is riddled with them.. Believe it was the former enlisted barricks.

Have made 2 seperate trips to go see th USS Arizona monument. Definately a site to behold. Both times I was there, there were groups of men there telling stories about Dec. 7th. Very interesting place to go to.

Yes it is. I've been there once, back when I was in 7th grade. Very memorable and very sobering but a good experience nontheless.

Beautiful pictures LP!   I've been to the memorial many times, as I lived and had a business in Hawaii for over ten years.  There is still over 1,100 souls in what's left of the Arizona.  My late inlaws lived on the heights above Pearl Harbor and had many stories to tell of that fateful day.  They had pictures of a Japanese Zero buzzing so close to their house that you could see the pilot.  That day certainly brought our country together like nothing before or since.  I'm not sure that we still have that kind of resolve.  Goodbye to the greatest generation.    Bob

Someday, when the opportunity presents itself, visit the "quiet" side of Ford Island. Visit the USS UTAH.

There's also a little known story of the "smallest member of the crew" who lies at rest aboard the USS UTAH today --- watched over by 54 of the ship's finest ....

A "SMALL" ADDITION TO THE STORY OF THE USS UTAH
Chief Yeoman Albert T. D. Wagner had the ashes of one of his twin daughters, Nancy Lynne, in his locker aboard ship on that fateful day of December 7, 1941. He was waiting for a Chaplain to come aboard and for the UTAH to go out on maneuvers so that her ashes could be scattered at sea in the old Navy tradition. The urn containing the ashes of the tiny baby girl went down with the UTAH. Frogmen tried to reach Wagner's locker to retrieve the urn, but the ship was too badly damaged. Therefore, there is a baby girl aboard the USS UTAH being guarded by 54 of the Navy's finest.

Wow!!!! I never heard that story.......extremely moving! (Especially, being a mommy myself.) Thank you for that info.  Anyone else with family/history info. about that tragic day, that you want to share?

As a current member of the military, let me extend my best wishes to those surviors and to the familes of all those that have served or are serving, Ive never been to pearl harbor, my grandparents have and they say it is aweing to stand above the Arizona.  i cant imagine being in WW2, those guys really were the greatest generation

I would also.  My Mother-in-law lived to 97.  After years of different caregivers living in the house, many of the family treasures disappeared, including those pictures.    Bob
