Does anyone know about these kits

Has anyone purchased one of those kits from ebay where you can switch over from power brakes to disc brakes on b bodies.It says in the ad that you have to do extensive work to the fire wall does anyone know what they are talking about do you have to chop up the engine bay to acheive disc brakes :scratchchin:can someone please help

first of all, theres no kit for power brakes to disc brakes, what you mean is a kit to convert a front drum braked car to a disc braked car.  These kits can be for either power brakes or manual brakes.  From my experience, you shouldnt have to mess with the firewall, execpt to drill a couple holes for the bolts and stuff like that but nothing extensive.

Lee, what kit are you referring to? Just switching from drum to disc doesn't require any firewall work. Post the kit you are looking at and we can help you from there..

would it be a safe buy then for my car to put discs on the front and still have the drums on the back

5 years or so ago......


I purchased a setup from a local gearhead.

Basically it was Front spindles, Calipers, rotors, and a manual master cylinder.

I Discs and Calipers are from a 71 Cordoba, and the Spindles and master cylinder

are from a dart?  I forget now.


The whole thing cost me $150 with new Pads.

They are manual and wouldnt trade them for assisted set. They "feel" really good.

The only downside is you cant use 14" In Wheels, but who has 14" Wheels anymore anyway.


Im sure somebody in here knows exactly what Im talking about.

And I would bet you could by all the parts for less than the ebay thing.




And yes discs up front and drums in back is fine.  All wheel disc brakes is a pretty new thing.

And Discs in front and drums in back is very common.  The front does most the breaking anyway.

Which sounds kinda odd but I suspect that is because of the Engine and trans weight, plus

the weight transfer once you begin braking.

You can use 14" wheels if you don't use the Cordoba calipers, rotors and brackets. If you stay with the A-body calipers, brackets and 10.87" rotors on the A-body spindles the 14" wheels will work fine.
