Do 255/60R15s work ok on the front?

I found a local guy selling a pair of 15x8 Magnum 500s with 255/60R15 BFG T/As on them and I'm wondering if that size will work on the front of my '68? Looking over the BFG tire chart I see where that tire and the 295/50R15 are almost exactly the same diameter (26.8" vs. 26.7") so the revs/mile at 45 mph would only be a difference of 11. Also, looks-wise they would be pretty much identical because they're the same diameter to the naked eye. Also, 295s will fit on a 15x8 rim so I could run all the same rim sizes. Anyway, I have to wonder if the 255s are too big for the front. I know at least one third gen guy running wider wheels than that on the front of his so is there a huge difference?

My -68 had thoose tires on at the front, I had no problems

I sold someone some which were on the back of mine and he put them on the front of his 69,
it caught the arch and bent the front fender when he put some lock on, probably will only work with certain wheel offsets

I think 255/60 15s are the most common actually. I also have them on all 4 corners

Does a 15x7 made a 255 wider because of the sidewall bulge or does the 15x8 make it wider because it's just wider? Or are they about the same?

When I said "local" in my first post it was a bit of a misnomer. Basically it's a 2.5-hour trip unless you're driving in typhoon-like conditions which we were last night. It was pretty much a constant hard rain with a stiff wind during the whole trip and most of it was done in the dark because myself and the family decided to spend the early part of the day putting up Christmas decorations (we should have done that after dark instead). Anyway, we left at 3:30 in the afternoon and got home at around midnight with what you see below. Although I burned about $30 in gas I saved roughly $250 getting these Specialty Wheel Magnum 500s and BFG T/As used from the guy on craigslist. There are few blemishes but I'm quite happy with them overall. The guy I bought them from sold all his Mopars because he started up a new restaurant about a year ago. He's sold a bunch of stuff already and only has a couple open differential gear sets left. These wheels/tires will be going on the front of my '68.

Bull, I had those on the front of my last '68 and '69 charger w/a 15 x 8.5 rim w/4.5 back space. 275/60 on the rear same size rim. Never had a problem w/rubbing. Torsion bar adjustment might be an issue also depending on how low the front end sits also for turning clearance.
Nice wheel/tire combo. Any photos of your charger?

Bull, I tried the 15X8s w/4.5" backspacing on my '68 and the rims rubbed the upper control arms.  I ended up with 15X8s in the back with 275/60/15's and 15X7s w. 4.25" backspacing up front with 235/60/15.  I hope those are going to work on your car.   Bob

I'll just have to try them out. I got a good deal on them so I'm not too worried about whether they rub or not. If they do I'll just go down a size or two and sell these tires.

Curtis, if the tires rub you could allways install them on a 15x7 rim and use the 15x8's out back with a 275/60/15 tire. 

I prefer a natural rake and will be using a 235/60 on the front & 275/60 on the rear of my 70 r/t with 15x7 & 15x8 steelies.

Yea, that could work. I'll try them on the front after I get the engine in and the front end rebuilt.
