I have a big list of stuff that I got from a road trip article in Mopar Muscle a few years back.  I'll find it for you and post it up.

An armed guard to stay by it at night in the motel parking lots.

Hmmm, looking at those pictures and I don't see a single item that I carry with me in my car for long trips? My trunk only holds so much stuff when you pack in all the video camera's, and digital camera's and extra lens. No room for spare parts in there after that.

That's one of the great things about a first gen, you fold those back seats down and the trunk panel and there is LOTS of storage space.  This is their tool list.  I also bring a cooler, lawn chairs, luggage, cameras, fluids, boom box, and a shop manual.

GreenMachine

Wiring Set (Multimeter, primary wire, terminals, tape, etc.), fuel pump, assortment of hoses and clamps, tire plug set, air pump, ballast resistor (or jumper wire), full gas can, couple of spark plugs just in case, spool of safety wire or coat hangers, flashlights, insulated coveralls, rags, and lots of tools.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

I took my 69 Malibu on vacation this year up to Maine and back, about a 1300 mile round trip with all the driving around during the week.

I too the following items.....
2 quarts of oil
1 quart of trans fluid
PS Fluid
Brake Fluid
Antifreeze
some spare running light bulbs
Spare tire
Belts
Duct tape
rag

Items I actually needed...None of the Above.  The car ran flawlessly up and back.

For the Charger I'd take nothing because I'd put it on the trailer with the winch because it breaks down everytime I take it more than 20 miles from home, but in your case....

Ballast Resistor
Electronic Control Module (Or points/condeser)
Voltage Regulator
Cap & Rotor
Duct Tape
Belts
Spare Bulbs
Spare fluids (oil, trans, PS, Brake, Antifreeze)
Small tool kit
Spare Tire

Those items take up the least amount of space and can get you out of bind and to a service station or something of that nature.  Cell phone and a credit card would be good to have also in case of a real emergency.

Actually if your car is mostly stock and in good mechanical condition, I'd be more concerned about someone stealing it, than it breaking down on the highway.
I realize anything can happen and sometimes does, but as I pondered your question I couldn't help but reflect on my own personal experiences through the years. I've driven these cars for a good portion of my life all over the country and have only had one breakdown. It was a fuel pump that went bad, and that was on a Chevy. With a little inginuity I still made it home. My Mopars have never left me stranded on the highway.

A spare ignition module, spark plug, plug wire, electric fuel pump, fuel line, small tube cutter, clamps, wire, wire nuts, electrical tape, bailing wire, qt. of oil, rags, crocus cloth, test lamp, spare belt for the water pump, hand tools, etc. and possibly a few other small key items should get you to the next town. And these items wouldn't take up much space.  Just my  :Twocents:
Botton line these cars were made to transport people and were very reliable, and still should be if in restored condition.

Have had to use them several times  .  :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: but we drive the car's to long distance shows alot in the summer .  Of course you all know my luck and I was an eagle scout so i have to BE PREPARED .

Visa Card, and an open mind!!  :2thumbs:

What about changing the parts you are unsure about PRIOR to the trip?
IMO the car should be in a state that you should be able to jump in it, and drive............for as long as you want!!!
Since we only live once, and all this is not just a dressed rehearsal, but the real thing............ Well, enjoy it!!!!

I'm surprised and a little pleased that no one mentioned a GPS.  (although a good stock of road maps never hurts)

I did =]

Yes you did and I apologize and stand corrected.  I remembered the part about the cotter pin though so I was paying a little bit of attention.  You can give me one of these now. :slap:
