I lied when I said that if I were buying a new car it would be a new Charger

You know guys, I have responded to a lot of post regarding the new Charger with things like "I think the new Charger is great and when I buy my next new driver that is what I am buying.

Well, there was a Ford dealer across the street from the Dodge Dealer and they had this 2008 Torch Red Shelby GT 500 in the show room.

After driving the 500 HP Super Charged Shelby it was no contest.

I still have my 68 Charger RT so I hope you guys will still let me hang out with you.

PS: About $14K will get you a great 86 Grand National.  The Shelby set me back a bit so I have to lose something and it ant going to be the Charger.

Yes nice car. :o   Local dealer has one , a red one like yours.
They had a big ol' dealer markup on it !!  [ about $20K, yikes]

I saw someone coming back from a test drive in that local Shelby 500.  I happened to be passing by, at the same time they were parking it up front. I drove by slowly and gave them a little "come hither" hand wave, but they did not want to come out and play unfortunately....

Congrats !

Was it that much better than the SRT  425 horse Chryslers/Dodges ?

Be careful around here posting Shelby threads, somebody got REAMED for even mentioning they test drove one...

PS: there's a black one at BBC in Burien, WAY marked up...

Ya, I am afraid the Shelby GT 500 is meaner.  The Super Charger and the 6 speed manual is the big difference.  However, the 5.4 L engine with an automatic and no blower would not run with the SRT 8.

My dealer also had a $20K dealer markup on mine but I paid a lot less than that.  They get a lot of tire kickers and unqualified buyers.  If they know you are serious about buying the car but not willing to give them a $20K markup they will deal.  The damn problem is if they want to hold out for the $20K they will eventually get it.

In 2001 I paid a bigger dealer markup for my PT Cruiser than I did for the Shelby.

Hello TK73,
The GN has to go because I am out of garage space and need some money to buy floor mats and stuff.
Kathy said that the WRX is not going anywhere.  It is her daily driver and she still loves it even after 125,000
miles of driving.

Thanks for the warning but my Shelby GT 500 can't be less popular than the new Charger on this site.
And besides I still have and will continue to have my 68 Charger RT.

HOLLY COW RON  :o :o  A FORD :shruggy:  You are hard to keep up with buddy........... I figured
you would wait for the new Challenger  :yesnod:   Amyway, I have said Ford hit it out of the park
with the new Mustang......... compared to anything else out there.

So this takes over for your daily driver PT?  It will be harder to talk on the cell phone shifting all those gears  :icon_smile_cool:
But pure joy in doing so, you need your hands free phone more now that ever  :yesnod: :yesnod:

Well there goes your hobby money for how long  :pity:  if the car is everything you expect, it will be well worth
it right?

Good luck Ron, should be seeing you real soon now............

That's gonna be a great feeling to drive one and then drive the other.  That new/old school stuff is cool.  Sweet, enjoy.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Wow, this sure is an apples and oranges decision you had to make.  What's the price difference between the two?  I haven't priced the shelby lately but I'm guessing at least $20-25K?  BEAUTIFUL CAR, however.  I ain't hacking on you, just pointing out the SUBTLE differences between the two.

TRAITOR!!!!! :flame:

Who? Ron or Chrysler Corp.? :D It's certainly not the guy looking for a TWO-DOOR V8 performance car who's the traitor. Yes, Cody, I know you're joking. :2thumbs:

You're funny, Ron. :smilielol: I have to say I can't blame you at all for making the decision you made, but then most people are well-informed about my opinion on the new "Charger" so it's probably not a big surprise. But what about the new Challenger like 8WHEELER said? If, I mean when they make it you'll already have 20k miles on the Stang. ;D Anyway, have fun! Looks like it will be.

I had a plain ol 01 GT and if I could afford it I would have a new or old for that matter GT500 siting next to my Charger. In fact my next "play" car will be a newer mustang convertible. NICE RIDE BTW [/color][/b]

Come on Troy, with all the $$$$ you make off of this site, you should have a his and hers edition GT500. :nana:

Good looking ride, that's a serious little pony!!

That's really cool, congrats!!

Now where's the block-long burnout pics? :D

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Congrats RTPTRON on the 500,definetly an awesome car!!!!Sorry to hear the GN is leaving instead of the WRX as I have a couple of buicks along with my mopars.I have owned my 87 GN for 16 years now,and could safely say it won't be going anywhere anytime soon.Just recently got rid of my 04 mustang GT,fun car too,but needed another truck so off it went.As we speak the GN's are going up in value, where I would think the WRX will be going down, but as you say it is the wifes then it's her say.Again congrats on the 500,good luck and enjoy!!!!!

Thanks for all the support guys.

Dan, this is another toy.  It is not going to handle the Winters around here very well with all the mountain pass trips I have to make.  The PT Cruiser and WRX will still be my primary drivers.

The new Challenger will be great but it is not available and who knows what that sucker will cost us when it is.  I was not planning to buy the Mustang I just wanted to check it out.  The $20K dealer premium on the window sticker was a deal stopper.  When we negotiated most of that away it was a deal waiting to happen.  I had to think about it for about a minute.   People are paying $65K plus for these cars.   Well,,, Dan,,, I will tell you the whole story when we get together again.

Thanks again everybody for the support.

I've driven the Ford GT 40 also many times, holy crap they are crazy fast. I can tell you this much, at 162 mph, it still pulls with two more gears to go!
Mark   :2thumbs:

that is SICK. 162 with gear left?? that would be a scary ride for sure
