Lived in NYC all my life & never have been to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.  Mostly because I never wanted to go (not a fan of crowds)

This year my family & I were given the opportunity to view the parade from my sister-in-law's building where she works.  Turns out, her company that she works for, Gerber Children's wear, opens up the office to a few employees & their families & caters the event with bagels, fruit, coffee, etc.   Her office is on the corner of 35th & 5th ave.....right next door to Macy's front door where the parade ends & all the entertainment happens!  Couldn't pass this one up.
We took the express bus in from Staten Island to the city & got there about 6:30am....streets were filling up already but it was still dark.  Parade didn't start till 9am...and the floats & balloons start around 60th street or so and they make their way down to 34th  street.   The parade ends at 12PM with Santa & his sleigh crossing 34th in front of Macy's.  All told it wasn't a bad experience & I actually enjoyed myself watching from a room on the 7th floor!

Here are a few pics

Thanks for the pictures!!  I've never been to the east coast, but I used to see the Rose Parade in Pasadena every year when I was a kid.  I agree that you should have had your Charger in there somewhere though!! ;)

THAT's the way to watch a parade!
As good a view as watching it on TV and without the stupid banter from the hosts.

Nice pictures.

I watched some of it on TV, but I've never really understood parades, though.
Why do people participate in them and why do so many want to watch?

I mean, it was mentioned on TV that one of the bands raised money to pay their way there.

Sure, some floats are sponsored. This whole parade is a Macy's deal.
I can see the marketting value there. I'm ot sure if that's the point of a parade though...

The old time circus parades made sense in my mind: circus' were always on the outskirts of town and you had to get everything there... why not make some noise along the way to drum up some interest? Hmmm, maybe marketting IS the point of a parade, after all.
