Hey Allen,  (edit:  Allens) :P

Sorry for the drought between updates, but there has been no major advances in the restoration.  There's a much longer explanation for why that is than anyone would honestly care to hear - but it has nothing to do with my desire to get the car done.  I have one large and one small batch of pictures to post on the other thread, but I have just been too busy at work to take the time to organize and write up a decent explanation of the pics.

The car is still in the block-fill-sand-seal stage, but they are getting it done right.  An example of this is that they have dug ALL of the lead filler out from around the window plug, and carefully welded the plug in solid so that they could smooth out that transition perfectly.  They also dug all the lead out and welded up the joints at some of the other problem areas on the exterior to make sure that there is never a problem.

I hope to have some time here soon, and maybe I can get the two batches of pics posted with some half-way coherent comments to go along.

Granola Sandals!!

I didnt know what Topsiders were so i did my homework and googled it, then it came up with a page full of different types.  I didnt figure you would be climbing hills in Columbia with beach shoes.  Thus the assumption of sandals came to mind.

Anyways, yes we cover it all here in Aero Cars.

You came to life in 75? I didn't come to life until 78 so I guess I totally missed out on those awsome shoes and hair do's.

Its funny but I can still picture Gene walking around with a backpack though.

Okay so Gene spill the beans what kind of a hair style was it then when you wearing those topsiders? I'm guessing a mullet.  :hah:

hemigeno

To be honest, I was never a mullethead.  It was time for a haircut (for me, anyway) by the time hair started touching the collar or coming over the ear.  Always been that way, but I don't know why.

80's fashion remembrances aside, I need to get some captions made up and post some pics.

Or better yet one who wore a suit jacket over a plain tshirt right? Come on you can admit you loved Miami Vice.

I'm sure that comment was hurled in my direction more than once - but I was probably on a banana-seat buzz bike then (with the "Wide One" rear tire of course).

If you'd have seen me walking around either Carlisle or the 'Nats you'd know what Danny was referring to - I still have a backback that I use to carry around reference material while I'm at the swap meets / shows.  No TopSiders though...

Hey where did the nostalgic conversation go to? Ah what am I talking about, I wasn't around then to put my  :Twocents: in anyways. Even though you all are older, I'm not sure who loved the wing cars first though. I can say that from day 1 I loved them as I came home from the hospital in a Daytona. Okay so maybe not from day one, but at the latest by 1979.

I wasn't aware of any of your ages though until this thread. And yeah I know I've heard plenty of "YOUNG PUNK, get off my lawn" comments in my life. Seems everywhere I've gone, I've always been the youngest in the group.

I did have a hand me down Schwinn that was identical to the one Gene mentioned. I can say though that by the time I was riding it, it was no longer the "in" bike. It was probably the cool bike to ride years earlier though, but in 1985 if you didn't have a BMX you weren't cool. And well I wasn't.
