So I I get stuck the other night in a ditch. I try rocking it by simply tapping the gas in repitition. Engine begins to stal (carbureted)l. Mechanically, why? Is it because I was flooding it? The intervals between gas taps werent long enough to allow the engine to burn the previous hit?

Just 6T9 CHGR

Possibly the rocking was uncovering the pickup in the fuel tank & line was getting airbound?

if the accelerator pump is set too rich it could be flooding it , you should see some black smoke from the exhuast if ti si doing that

Yeah, its a 4bbl Edel that pretty much is nothing more than a Carter with the Edelbrock name stuck on it. They have thier differences yeah, but basically the same thing.

You see, it never died, but was about to had I not put it back in neutral. The front wheels were the ones in the ditch.

The Eddycarter does have some issues with fuel flow under those kind of conditions.  For one, it seems to take the accelerator pump longer to refill than a Holley so tapping it could very well have drained that well.  They also don't like fuel sloshing in the float bowls.  Corner hard with an AFB and give it some throttle and it will frequently cough.

Gotcha! Thanks. So its pretty much an isolated problem confined to the fuel bowl and pump within the carb itself.

More than likely.  It hasn't done it since then?

Flat land but the front wheels being in the ditch caused it to have a slight rake to it. Id say the ditch was about a foot deep. Buts thats going on at least a week old memory.

I'm thinking it was nothing to worry about.  Just the conditions at the time.  If it comes back, well, then you may have a problem.
