Hi Charger guys!
I just got my engine back from the builder and all is well!  500HP's and 520 foot pounds of peak torque.  Not bad for a street machine.  Anyway here is my problem.  Should I change my torque convert from the stock one?  I think the Stock for a 68 Charger R/T is 1800 stall???  The engine is 10.235-1 compression and has Indy EZ heads.  I don't know much about cams but it does say COMP CAMS HYD F.T. XE285HL-10.  I have the paper work if any more info is needed.

Can I just purchase any off the shelf torque converter or should I have a custom made one?  The car is a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T with a bond Stock 727and will do more street burn outs with no track time.  I just want it to hop off the line and put as much power to the ground as possible.  I have included the Dyno runs results

Any ideas???  Please help!

Nice build ! The stock converter won't cut it, that's for sure.  ;) The engine made peak torque @ 4200-4300 rpm so i would be looking at a tight 9.5in converter from Dymanic or PTC. You should be using a 3.91-4.10 axle ratio to get the most out of that build.  :Twocents:

The rear end has 3:55 gears in it now.  What stall should I get?

Thanks for the help!

A 4000-4200 stall (9.5 Converter) is what you need. The gears should be swapped out as well.  :Twocents:

That seems like a lot of stall for a street car.  I do not want to question you, becuase I for sure do not understand the mistry of the Torque converter and what I does :shruggy:  The guys that built the engine (Dave @ Mopar Engines West) suggested i us like a 3000-3500.  Thanks for your help!!!!  Everyone on this website is always to eager to help!  I can't wait till I can help someone with what I am learing.

I'm with Firefighter on this one. I have a 9.5 inch Dynamic with 3500 stall and a 4.10 gear. I should have gone with the 4000 stall. My current 3500 stall is, of course, the flash stall. I leave a light at between 1800 and 2200, depending on how haevy my foot is. The trans has a temp guage that never goes over 120 degrees F. A 4000 stall matched with the rest of the combo will not be noticed on the street. Go for it and never look back.
If it ain't wide open; it ain't running.        Rule number one in motocross racing: Pin it; row the gear box; and wait until you hit something.     At work my motto is: If you need me, call someone else.
