Help deciding what Headers to buy...

Well my 440 is almost done. My mechanic says he'll try to get it finished before x-mas (I brought him the engine over a year ago and told him to take his time, and I'm still not in any hurry as the body is not ready for the engine anyway).

I need to start figuring out what headers to buy so I can have them ready by the time my engine is done so I can get it on the Dyno.

My mechanic recommended something big (1 7/8" or 2"). I'm looking at something in either or those sizes but a good brand and that will also fit good on my '68 charger.

What do you gearheads recommend?

if you have the cash, go for tti's expensive, but fit well (so im told i dont have them myself) 1.7/8th should be big enough however, if planning a stroker you may want to think about the 2 inch diameter headers.  :Twocents:

Bobby, the TTI's fit very nice but are expensive. Another excellent option are the Thorley headers....the are heavy guage steel and come ceramic coated for about $300 less than the TTI's. These will also fit with an angled plug head (Edelbrock RPM/Indy EZ) should you decide to upgrade in the future. Here's a good link to read :

Thanks, Fellas.

I was thinking TTI beforehand, but I'm gonna check out that link, Ron.

One more question, what's a reasonable price to get my engine on a Dyno when I'm done?

Bobby, the going rate is about $500 for a full day of testing....it might be cheaper in your area so shop around.  ;)

Wow. My mechanic said it's usually 350 a day locally. Guess that's a bargain. :D

Thanks, Ron. You're the man!

If I ever see you, I'm gonna let you raise hell in my charger (if I ever get it done).  :2thumbs:

You guys are lucky to have "local" dynos, it involves a fair drive for some of us.

My engine is 150 miles from where I live. I'd also have to have my engine hooked up to the dyno up there too (San Antonio). So I'm in the same boat. :D
