It sure would make a lot of tuning and repair work much easier. Not sure if I care for the rear of the fenders cut in half or not, though.

WANT TO BUY:
Looking for a CD by  'The Sub-Mersians'  entitled "Raw Love Songs From My Garage To Your Bedroom"

Also, any of the various surf-revival compilation albums this band has contributed to.
Thank you,    Kenny

I was wondering if you could buy a kit to do this.
Someone probably sells a kit to do it.

It's a one-piece fiberglass front clip so it's not like cutting a real metal fender in half.

I know that. I mean, the cut line in the rear of the fender. I'm not sure I would like it, aesthetically speaking...

OK. Usually they are on drag cars and it's tough to see the line from 100' away. I've seen some Chevys at shows and wasn't real impressed with the finish in that area. Sometimes they are cut at an angle but it's still obvious.

Why would you want to?
:iagree: , it looks like the rear fenders have been modded as well.

cudaken

There was one on e-bay I all most bought for the Blower Project.  But, did not want to cut up the inner fenders.

I know a few places make full fronts you can connect them your self but I just would rather have the stock ones.  I am not going to mod mine for the '70 just because I dont want to ruin a good set of steel ones.

There were a few companies a few decades ago making them. Not sure if any still are. But they were terrible fit and finish. Looked more like a Fisher Price "My First Fibreglass" attempts. The amount of fill and spot putty needed to make a presentable surface for paint would negate any weight savings. And the details were really crude. But that was 20-30 years ago and for a track car viewed from 100 feet or so away they were presentable.

THE CHARGER PUNK

a company call showcars or something makes one piece front end 69 charger tilt kits with grilles to. i cannot remember the site its like showcars.com or something will post later if i can find it.-MATT

I used to want one in the worst way back in the 70's but we thought bell bottoms and avocado colored appliances were cool then too.

Not everyone is a purist. Like Troy said, they are normally used for drag racing. Think about the weight loss and the ease of working without a fender in the way or worrying about an elbow dent in the fender while you are removing heads..

What was the figure?? 100 lbs off the car equals a tenth???

Bumper and brackets _____
hood  and latches     _____
fenders                   ______
hinges                     ______

valance and brackets ______
core support            ______

Hell,,, that's some real time.....

I tend to think of Chargers as balance cars.  If you obsess too much about their weight, you may as well get an A-body.  If you don't care at all, you may as well get a 70 Sport Fury GT or an old 300.  That's just me though.
