My problem. After speaking with several people on this issue of biggest tire that I can probably run on my '72 Charger SE, I've determined that the best combo is the P295/50 series on the back.... But.... The best wheel for what I want to run seems to be a 9" wide wheel, but I can only find a wheel that wide in a 17" size... Any ideas? The thread I'm basing this on, is from PaulG, the thread is: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,13886.0.html If I went with a what ever diameter by 10" width, I would have to go with a 5" b/s if I remember right. The front wheel width and b/s is set, but I'm trying to figure out the rear wheel size. Afterall, I'm not gonna be running a 6 cylinder, lol, gonna be that 440/512 based stroker motor..... Well, I would type more, but it's off to work, love the night shift..... If there are any question, lemme know, and I'll try and answer accordingly...

I would stick with a 15 inch rim and go with 8 or 10 inch wide  :Twocents:

Same here.  These cars look good with a big tire but to me personally, there seems to be a point of overkill there too sometimes.

I'm guessing you mean with a big wheel instead of tire? If so, why do you think I despise 20" wheels or so on a car? I'll leave that to the "homies" and such. But for a muscle car, I'll pass that up, and I hope I've not effended anyone by this, if so, my bad. The P295/50 with an 8" wide wheel, I've been told wouldn't look right, not that it want work, but want look right, and if something looks a bit jacked up, I'm not interested. But I used it as an option to see how many people would choose it. Also, one thing that I'm having to consider is, brake set up. I will probably leave the rear alone with a drum set up, but for the front, I was thinking about something like this: http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/172fo10pobr.html but am unsure if a 15" wheel will work, it doesn't seem to specify. Also, I'm not sure if that will even for sure work on my '72 Charger with factory power brakes, but something like this, I think, is what I would probably need building the motor I'm building.

terrible one

I'd hit up the eight incher with the 295's. They'll look good and beefy overflowing!

:D That's who I had talked with about this. He was the guy who had recommended the 9" wide wheel in what ever size. I p.m'd. PaulG a few times back and fourth about trying to figure out about the best way to go, and of course, learn from others mistakes, and better routes to go. He had to use wheel spacers, and this is where I know my backspacing of things. The front is a given, no issues for him, and the fit, to me, looks nice... Only thing is that rear. The only 9" wide wheel that I've seen is like 17" and up..... I have found one in a 15" I think, but it's that Warrior wheel... I'm either gonna go Magnum, or a 5 spoke design (like the ol Cragers, but a newer design, something with wider spokes)... If this is the case, I'm stuck with either 15x8 or 15x10...... PaulG had mentioned to me that the 15x8 wheel with a 295/50 wouldn't look quite right. And the minimum tire width, of course, depends on the tire used, but the ones that I'm looking into say min is 8" width, most go up to like 10" widths...... The main reason why the 9" was recommended is for leaf spring clearance and such. I'm not going to move the leafs springs around for several reasons... As you all can see, he's running 15x10 magnums, and before the wheel spacers, the tire/wheel was right at the leaf springs.... Hince the previous mentioned change in b/s he told me to use.... If I use a 15" wheel, what's the biggest brake combo I can run? I've seen some say you have to use a 17" wheel, but that's using a 13" rotor with 4 piston aluminum calipers, blah blah blah. Will the 11" rotor, or what not, gonna be about as big as I can go? This is focused on the 15" front wheel. Since I'm building this motor, that should have over 500 h.p. and who knows what kind of torque numbers, it's obviously gonna move on down the road quite well...... But it's got to stop this bad boy too, lol. I'm trying to make sure everything is gonna work before I start calling up on exact prices and such..... As of right now, here's the lay out:

Front: 15"x8" wheel with 4" b/s http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=ARE%2D405586540&N=700+4294923107+4294923106+4294923105+4294795099+4294793325+4294795098+4294755963+4294755957+115&autoview=sku
Rear: 15"x10" with 5" b/s http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=ARE%2D405%2D516550&N=700+4294923107+4294923106+4294923105+4294795005+4294795084+4294793325+4294755963+4294755957+115&autoview=sku

Something like these maybe. Or the equivalant, but on the Magnum 500 style.... :-\

HR,

a 295/50/15 fits fine on an 8in rim....the recommended rim for that size is 8in-10in.  ;)

How about this thread then..... http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,31804.msg361723.html#msg361723 Seems as if one thing changes, a lot of other things change, from a 383 build, to a 440 Source 512 Stroker kit build.... This thing needs to hook up the best it can, without changing springs, with the exception of the fact that I'm going to replace the springs and go with a extra heavy duty leaf spring set up, like these: http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/extraheavyduty.html part #MOPP982-983. The cars ability to hook up is going to be a little limited to the fact that it has a rear sway bar, and I know that will hold it back some, but it will be on the road, so... If anything with the rear sway bar that's already on it, I would want to replace all the bushings to polyurathane. Anyway, another subject another time. The tire selection is still open. The car want hook up in any wet weather situation, that's just a fact, and that's that, lol. On the other hand, dry weather, what would be my best 295/50 bet? As I stated, car will be on the road, and cruise to local car shows and such. Longest trip is an hour and a half or so away, depending on all factors that is. Since I found out that the rear end isn't the 3.55 SG unit I thought it was, and turned out to be a 3.23 open rear :icon_smile_dissapprove:, I'm going to send the center section out of my '69 (same casting #) and have a 3.55 SG put in, and throw that in the car :2thumbs:. So, what you all say? :shruggy: :slap:

And looks like these for the rear: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=ARE%2D405%2D586550&N=700+4294923107+4294923106+4294923105+4294793325+4294795098+4294755963+4294795005+4294755957+400082+115&autoview=sku
