Rear axle scraping on collar - help

G'day guys,

if you could look at the pictures I've attached, I was hoping there was an easy explanation for why the collar on my drivers side axle is scraping on the axle itself ? Is it to do with the adjustment of the passenger side one ? I've never had adjustable axles before.

Any advice is appreciated.

Are you sure it is the collar rubbing? Maybe something came off the break assembly and wedged itself next to the shaft and made the groove. Otherwise, I have no idea how the collar would do that. Sorry I can't help.

yep - it's the collar. it's almost as though the axle were going into the center of the diff too much, that's why I'm wondering if it's something to do with the other side.....I'm stumped.

Well, the adjustment on the passenger side is used to set axle end play. I would definately check that. I would think you could see that in this instance just by looking at the tire-to-wheel opening. If it was in that far away on the drivers side, it should be pretty close to the opening on the passenger side I would think. Hopefully someone else that has dealt with rear ends more than us will chime in here.
